Negative feelings are one the worst things we can experience as a human being. And you might be reading this because you have some sort of negative feeling(s) that you have or encounter on a daily basis. I may know what you're going through right now the thing is I'm just like you.
There is not a day that goes by in my life where I do not encounter negative feelings. I've probably tried hundreds of different ways to cope with them, from trying my best not to think of a negative thought when it comes around the corner to reframing my thoughts into something else.
But no matter what, my negative feelings still keep coming like a tidal wave one after another.
Before you submerge yourself into another method of how to get rid of negative feelings, I want to share what has helped me. I can truly say that if you can master this, then you'll be able to handle your negative feelings a lot better in the long run, rather than just deal with the symptoms for a brief moment(e.g. do something, it goes away, it comes back later, repeat, etc.).
The key to getting rid of negative feelings isn't a giant mystery, but many people get angry, depressed, jealous, irritated, anxious, confused, and worried over things that may seem impossible to overcome. It would be pretty nice if we could stay detached to our emotions and not let them affect us and our thinking, but emotions are part of the body; they here to stay. And since we think about hundreds if not thousands of thoughts per day, it's natural that a few of those thoughts can affect how we feel. The biggest one being fear.
  • Fear that we cannot do it...
  • Fear that it will not work...
  • Fear that this is impossible...
  • Fear that this is not for me...
  • Fear that we are always out of luck...
  • Fear that we will never win...
When this happens, our imaginations run wild with more negative thoughts, and this can totally cause our bodies to go beyond just negative feelings. Do you ever feel so out of sync with yourself that you start to analyze every different rational way just to get a hold of your emotions? Then what happens is you're so in the midst of analyses paralyses that your body actually because paralyzed? At this point the mere process of just taking action is not even an option anymore.
If you're a person who constantly finds themselves analyzing your feelings, what you need to do is stop. This will always cause you to have negative emotions. They won't go away just because you started to reframe your thoughts into something differently. What happens when another similar situation comes up? What happens if it's worse? Will you have to come up with another hundred ways until you reframe your negative thoughts and feelings into something else?
I used do this a lot for hours and the end result was always the same; either staying the same place where I was hours ago or backtracking.
For example:
"I'm afraid that people will think lowly of me if I do something wrong."
This is negative thinking will cause tension in your body, and you're body will then tell your subconscious to stop working. Then your mind go into a mode where all you are doing is battling with yourself endlessly through heated analyses.
  • "Why would people think lowly of me?"
  • "Who are these people?"
  • "Should I keep going?"
  • "Just go!"
  • "What do I need to do?"
All this talk of analyzing the situation is useless...
If you want to get rid of negative thinking, do not battle your body with your other thoughts! What you need to do is start trying to be in complete harmony with your body. They should be an aligned, not disjointed.
In other words: just be.
When a negative situation comes up, such as a negative thought or a negative emotion; let it be.
Nothing outside of your physical body is actually happening; everything is going on inside of you.
When you feel worry, anxiety, or fear, let it be. Accept that it's there; don't try to fight it.
When any negative situation comes, be prepared for it, be aware of it, but most importantly, be conscious of it.
Sometimes when this happens, you'll absolutely need to stop what you're doing and go somewhere where it's completely silent and just sit there being undisturbed by. This may take 1 hour; this may take 10 minutes. It depends on how strong the negative emotion is but whatever you do, don't try to fight your negative feelings.
Don't question it, don't analyze it, don't talk about it, and don't obsess or think about it.
Just be.
Be aware of your feelings and allow them run through your body. As hard as it may be at first, if you can do this, then you will be able to channel that negative energy into something positive later on.
Understand that whatever thought caused the uncomfortable you are having, you first accept that it is what it is. The second thing is being conscious of how that makes you feel? Specifically where is the feeling located? Do you feel in it in your chest, your arms; your whole body? Maybe you can't even identify where it is because the feeling moves from place to place in your body.
Don't go into an emotional tantrum like some people do. This just feeds into the negative feelings even more. Just stay still. Recognize these feelings and actually feel them.
This may be contrary to what people belief, but the truth is your not escaping your feelings. You're facing them straight on.
As you're feeling them, say to yourself, "I understand that this is what I am thinking about right now, and I understand that this is what I'm feeling right now. I accept this."
To really understand how to accept something, sometimes you won't even need words at all; you won't even need to say what is written above. Words may cause even more trouble if you start talking within your mind again. It should be silent.
You just are just being at the moment.
You are absorbing whatever happens to be the case.
Whatever you are thinking and feeling, you accept.
If you don't know something, then you don't know. Accept the feeling of not knowing something. If you truly accept something for what it is, you should feel an instant calmness to you.
Anger, jealous, curiosity, and fear should slowly dissipate from your body and you should be able to think more clearly and logically on what to do next once these feelings are gone.
You're not fighting your negative feelings; you're absorbing them and being in sync with them.
The more you are able to do this, the easier it becomes. It's definitely a skill that is worth investing in my opinion because if you can learn to accept the small negative feelings that you are having, then you will be able to learn how to deal with bigger negative feelings the next time it comes. But you'll be prepared when the 83th negative situation comes up, you'll be so completely detached from it that you'll simply brush it off and move on. That's what you're working up to.
It definitely beats taking pills from doctors that are just a temporarily relief. If you can't accept the first negative feeling, then you won't be able to get through the others. You'll constantly have to rely on short term alternative routes to escape the uncomfortable.
I've always disregarded the quote, "No pain, no gain." I've heard so many quotes in my lifetime that sometimes I just neglect them. But this quote sums it up.
Each time you feel a negative feeling, it may be painful but accept it. You're battling it; you're absorbing it. You're gaining ground each time you do this and by the time the 83rd negative situation comes you; you'll be so detached to it that you'll just move on. You'll be indifferent.
The real question isn't how to get rid of negative feelings? People who try to "get rid of it" in my opinion, are taking the wrong first step and will have a hard time doing so because you're in constant battle with something that's naturally a part of you.
Emotions are not something where you can just "remove" or "erase" as you're not getting rid of anything.
You're absorbing something and putting it for better use later on.
And the key to doing this first understand it and accept it. Allow to to be there.

Have you ever noticed that milk has an inherently mild sweet taste? If you never had plain milk, you may not have noticed. Try plain milk and observe the taste.
This is because milk has a type of sugar called lactose. Lactose is one of the many types of sugars or simple carbohydrates that are found in different food sources.
Lactose cannot be absorbed during digestion as it is. It needs to be broken down The human small intestine produces an enzyme called lactase. The function of lactase is to break down lactose into glucose and galactose. Both of which are simple sugars, which can be easily absorbed through the small intestinal wall.
About 10% of the population do not produce enough lactase to properly digest a glass of milk.
When you don't have enough lactase, residual lactose makes its way to the large intestine. There unfriendly bacteria feed on lactose and produce lots of gas. This could easily turn into foul-smelling gas.

Lactose is present in milk and any product that is derived from milk. Lactose is present in milk, yogurt, cheese, kefir, sour milk, buttermilk, butter, whey, curd, milk solids, dried milk and anything else made using milk. The amount of lactose will vary. Hardened cheese has less lactose, butter has less lactose and milk has the highest.
Many people are tempted to self-diagnose lactose intolerance. It is recommended that you see a medical professional to confirm the diagnosis. Typically you will be administered a certain breath test. There are some ethnic groups who use dairy more than others and have done for ages. They probably have good genetic buildup to support dairy use. In general dairy is not for everyone.
As indicated above, you have an option to give up dairy. If you decide to give up dairy, make sure you get enough vitamin D from other sources. Dairy products are fortified with vitamin D and are a big source. But you don't have to worry about calcium and never need to take calcium supplements.
Another option is to go for lactose free dairy products. The recommendation is to use it sparingly.
You can also try a lactase supplement that you can use right before consuming dairy.
Do not use dairy products by itself. Rather consume dairy products along with the meal or other food that have some fat and protein. The idea is that if you drink milk by itself, you overwhelm the areas in the small intestine responsible for lactose breakdown.
But if you consume milk with other foods that have protein and fat, you slow down the digestion process and the small intestine has to deal with a gradual load of lactose rather than a sudden dump.
Lactose intolerance usually means you don't produce enough lactase for lactose processing. You still produce lactase. Lactase production never completely stops in anyone. This means you can tolerate small amounts of dairy. One has to experiment, but usually less than 4 Oz is okay without any discomforting symptoms.

I have been in the industry for over 14 years, and I get these questions all the time. The main thing to remember is that makeup should be fun--it is what you make it! Do not look to others for rules...if it feels good to you and makes you feel good about yourself, that is what's important.

I really dislike it when people who tell women over 40 "don't wear shimmer!!" It's hogwash. Of course women over 40 can wear shimmer. Blending it (applying a back and forth motion) makes it last longer, and look better. Then apply eyeliner and mascara, and that is a simple, glamorous look that is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
-Blush is simple: use a very small amount on the front of the cheek, and blend it out.
-Foundation: always use moisturizer first...then, apply a powder foundation. It will even out the skin tone, eradicate redness, while feeling like you have nothing on. Foundation should be a tad lighter than your skin tone. Dark foundation will age you, so when in doubt, go a little lighter, and you can always change the tone or color with bronzer.

We all know water is better for us than soda, sugary drinks and all the other liquids most people prefer to drink than simple water. But we all have cravings. I used to drink lots of soda thinking I was getting enough water from it.

Excessive Alcohol Consumption and Hemorrhoids
By no means am I telling people not to drink. I enjoy one glass of red wine with dinner most nights. My doctor told me it was good for my heart in moderation. If I'm at a dinner party it's not uncommon for me to have two or three glasses of red wine while enjoying good company.
When I go fishing or camping with family and friends I enjoy more than a few bottles of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. As I've got older in life I've learned my drinking limits and no when to not push it to excessive alcohol consumption.
Where excessive alcohol consumption and hemorrhoids becomes a dangerous mix is when it comes to heavy or binge drinking. College was my first experience with excessive alcohol consumption and piles. I wasn't drinking enough water or eating right. My sophomore year I developed a very small external hemorrhoid.
It still hurt like an itchy fiery bee sting and I was embarrassed to tell my friends. My parents took me to a doctor who prescribed me a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) to treat it and eliminate it. The growth was very small and was caught early, so it could be treated without surgery or banding. Vitamin C is one of the better known pneumonia home remedies. Vitamin C boosts your immune function by stimulating the production of interferon - a natural microbe killer. When an infection starts, take 500-1000mg of vitamin C every hour for several hours (or until you get loose stools).
Zinc stimulates antibody and T-cell production and helps fuel circulation of white blood cells. A zinc lozenge or dose of liquid zinc every 2-3 hours is recommended.
Vitamin A will help heal inflamed mucous membranes and strengthen the immune system. This dose can be taken safely a couple of times a day. If you are pregnant keep your dose below 2500 IU.

Turmeric Benefits - Cancer Prevention - Can Turmeric Prevent Cancer?

The active component curcumin in the spice turmeric is shown to prevent and retard cancer in hundreds of studies and research reports. Many of the methods by which carcinogenesis (attack of carcinogens on the DNA and cellular structure) progresses has been shown to be retarded or short circuited by turmeric. A powerful carcinogenic agent TPA (tissue polypeptide antigen) is known to cause cancer by increasing the production of a substance in the body called protein kinase. Turmeric appears to suppress the production of protein kinase. Turmeric is also shown to lower the levels of oncogen which is a cancer causing gene called c-jun. A team of scientists not only demonstrated these suppressive effects but caused a 99% inhibition of TPA induced tumors on rodents.
It is obvious that turmeric is shutting of some of the cancer causing pathways and probably blocking of malignant tumors at the initiation, promotion and progression stage itself. Turmeric is capable of slowing or preventing genetic mutation in cells that are risk factors for cancer. Mutation is a genetic change in the DNA - Deoxyribonucleic acid of a cell that gets passed on to future generations of the cells in the process of cell division. Although not all DNA mutations are carcinogenic cancer has always followed DNA mutation.
Couple of important studies has dramatically indicated that this cancer causing DNA mutation pathway can be closed by turmeric. In one study mutagenic changes in the bone marrow of mice were significantly decreased by administration of turmeric extract. Another study was dramatic because it was done on people. Normally such studies are never done on people as it is illegal and unethical to inject people with carcinogenic agents as in the case of animals used for laboratory studies. Smokers are injecting themselves with wide range of carcinogenic agents. A study was done on 100 smokers in India who refused to quit against all warnings. They were given turmeric extract pill for 30 days (Though diet in India regularly contains turmeric that is not sufficient). During this period there was a startling 40% reduction in the urinary extraction of tobacco related mutagens - a byproduct of cell/DNA mutation. Clearly turmeric -curcumin detoxified enough carcinogens in the lungs to cause such a reduction of mutation process.
Turmeric tops the short list of really powerful cancer preventive agents. Many government funded agencies like Nation Cancer Institute, Medline Plus and American Cancer Institute have recognized turmeric as one of the best means of prevention against cancer.

Diagnosing Celiac Disease and Gluten Sensitivity

Celiac disease, also known as gluten sensitive enteropathy is very common but frequently missed. It is an autoimmune disease of intestinal damage due to gluten in people who are genetically predisposed. Classic Celiac disease is diagnosed by abnormal blood tests and an abnormal
appearing intestine on biopsy and symptoms that resolve with a gluten free diet.
Several blood tests exist for Celiac disease. They have varying degrees of accuracy. Some are more sensitive, meaning they will be positive in milder forms of the disease but are not specific, meaning a positive test may not indicate Celiac disease. Others are felt to be very specific, meaning that when they are positive, it is almost certain you have the disease.
The most specific tests are tests for Celiac disease endomysial antibodies (EMA) and
tissue transglutaminase antibody (tTG) tests. These two tests are IgA based tests and can be negative if you are deficient in the immunoglobin IgA, which occurs in 10-20% of people with Celiac. When either EMA or tTG are positive Celiac disease is very likely and usually the intestine biopsy is positive. Recent studies indicate that the tTG may only be positive in 40% of true Celiacs when mild degrees of intestine damage are present on biopsy. Seronegative Celiac, meaning the blood tests are negative but the biopsy is positive, may occur in up to 20% of Celiacs.
Antibodies for gliadin (AGA), the toxic fraction of gluten are considered very sensitive but not specific for Celiac disease. Newer assays for AGA antibodies for gluten that has undergone a chemical change
called deamidation appear to be more specific for Celiac disease (Gliadin II,
Inova) than the older gliadin tests. They also may be as or more accurate than EMA and tTG
antibody tests but are not yet widely available.
The most distressing problem for people with lesser forms of gluten intolerance who have blood tests and/or biopsies that are normal or borderline yet respond to a gluten free diet is either not being taken seriously or knowing for sure if they are sensitive to gluten. For these individuals stool
antibody testing for antigliadin and tTG have been helpful. Such stool testing has been performed in research labs and published in a few studies but are only recently available through the commercial lab, Enterolab. Founded by a former Baylor research gastroenterologist, Dr Ken Fine, the tests are available to people online without a doctors order but are not generally covered by insurance. Dr. Fine, who patented the test, has yet to publish the results of his findings in a peer reviewed journal so his tests are not widely accepted. However, his unpublished data and the clinical experience of some of us who have used his test have
indicated the tests are very sensitive for signs of gluten sensitivity. He reports that they are 100% sensitive for Celiac disease and highly sensitive
for gluten sensitivity of lesser degrees. In the presence of symptoms, that reverse on a gluten-free diet,
abnormal stool antibody levels can be found in most people before blood tests or biopsies become
abnormal.
Small intestine biopsies during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy
are considered the "gold standard" for the diagnosis of Celiac disease.
However, recent studies have demonstrated that some people with gluten sensitivity, especially relatives of Celiacs
with little or no symptoms, have changes from gluten injury to the intestine that can not be seen with normal microscope examination. They can only be seen with special stains not routinely done or with a research electron microscope. The special stains are known as immunohistochemistry stains. They stain specialized white
blood cells called lymphocytes in the intestinal lining tips or villi. When these lymphocytes are increased it is known as intraepithelial lymphocytosis or increased IELs and it is the earliest sign
of gluten induced injury or irritation. Electron microscopy also reveals very early ultrastructural changes in some individuals when blood tests and standard biopsy examination are normal. When people who have these changes are
offered the option of a gluten-free diet they usually responded favorably. In contrast, those who continue to eat gluten often later developed classic Celiac disease.
What these studies suggest is that a "normal small intestine biopsy" may exclude
Celiac disease as defined by strict criteria but it is not a gold standard for detecting gluten sensitivity. This fact is appreciated by many individuals who have respond to a gluten-free diet they start
based on their symptoms, family history, suggestive blood test or stool antibody
test(s).
Another source of confusion is in the genetics of Celiac and gluten sensitivity.
Testing for specific blood type patterns on white blood cells known as HLA
DQ2 and DQ8 is increasingly being employed to determine if a person carries either of the two gene
pattern present in 95-98% of Celiacs and predisposing them to the development of Celiac disease. Some use the absence of these two patterns
as a way of excluding the possibility of Celiac disease and the need for testing or
gluten-free diet. However, there are rare reports of documented Celiac disease in people who are DQ2 and
DQ8 negative. Moreover, recent studies indicate other DQ
patterns may be associated with gluten sensitivity though unlikely to
predispose to classic Celiac disease.
Testing for all the DQ patterns is advocated by Dr. Fine, based on his
experience with stool antibody test results. He reports that other DQ types are
associated with elevated levels of gliadin and tTG in the stool and symptoms that respond to a gluten-free diet.
According to his unpublished data, all the DQ types except DQ4 are associated with
a risk of intolerance to gluten. Therefore, testing for all the DQ types allows a person to
determine if they carry one of the two high risk gene types for Celiac disease or
any of the other "minor DQ" genes Fine has found associated with gluten sensitivity.
Enterolab's stool testing for gliadin antibodies and tissue
transglutaminase antibodies, though not widely accepted, have gained favor in the lay
public's opinion as an option for determining sensitivity to gluten either despite negative blood tests and/or biopsies or in place of the more invasive tests. Most doctors still recommend the accepted blood tests and small
bowel biopsy for confirmation of Celiac. Though the reports in the lay community
are overwhelmingly positive they have not been subjected to peer review in
the medical community pending Dr. Fine publishing his data or other researchers reproducing his results.
However, doctors open to
the broader problem of gluten
sensitivity are reporting these tests helpful in many patients suspected of gluten
intolerance. Especially when someone has symptoms consistent with gluten sensitivity but has negative or inconclusive blood tests and/or biopsies these tests may be very helpful though some are not certain
how to interpret the tests. The national Celiac organizations are uncertain about how to
comment on their application without published research though a recent article
in the British Medical Journal did show stool tests highly specific for Celiac. Dr.
Fine has publicly commented that his unpublished data demonstrates those with
abnormal stool tests indicating gluten sensitivity
overwhelmingly respond favorably to a gluten free diet with improvement of
symptoms and general quality of life.
Another problem is that there are not universally agreed upon definitions for gluten sensitivity or intolerance. This becomes especially difficult for those who do not meet strict criteria for Celiac disease yet may have abnormal tests and/or symptoms that respond to a gluten-free diet. Those individuals become confused when they try to find information but do not have a formal diagnosis of Celiac disease. Consensus in the medical community on definitions and more research in this area is greatly needed.
The few doctors who appreciate the spectrum of gluten
intolerance or sensitivity are outnumbered by the medical majority that continue to
insist on strict criteria for diagnosis for Celiac disease before recommending a
gluten-free diet. Doctors either unfamiliar with the limitations of the tests as documented by Celiac research or who insist on the
strict criteria for Celiac being the only indication for recommending a gluten free
diet unfortunately may confuse or frustrate gluten sensitive individuals. Some of these people then seek answers on the internet or from alternative practitioners. Many have their diagnosis missed, challenged, dismissed, or are misinformed. As a result they fail to benefit from the health
