The Health Benefits of Lobster

High in protein and low in fat, lobster is a very beneficial meat. Comparable to a steak, lobster has less than thirty grams of protein in a five ounce portion. Lobster also has less fat compared to steak. It is perfect for a no or low carbohydrate diet as well. Under the Weight Watcher's system lobster has just four points.   Not only is lobster low in fat, it is lower in cholesterol than skinless chicken breast. Lobster has seventy-two milligrams compared to chicken's eighty-five milligrams.
In addition to having a high protein and low fat composition, lobster meat has ten to twenty percent of the USDA's daily recommended value of potassium, selenium, zinc, phosphorus, copper, and vitamin B12.  Like many other types of seafood, lobster also contains a high constitution of Omega 3 fatty acid which is beneficial for both your heart and your brain. Selenium aids the immune system and thyroid gland and may also help prevent heart disease. Bone and tissue diseases can be avoided by diets high in copper. The vitamin B12 is essential for healthy nerve and red blood cells. Phosphorus contributes to proper kidney functioning and lessens arthritis pain. Increased brain activity, a boosted immune system, and a healthier reproduction system are all benefits from consuming zinc. Finally potassium is credited with aiding your heart's functions. The benefits of Omega 3 fatty acid range from reducing your risk of heart attack to lowering your blood pressure.
Perfect for people on a diet and those simply trying to have a healthier lifestyle, lobster is a far superior choice to the usual steak. Eating lobster clearly provides you a low fat, comprehensive range of nutritional value while at the same time giving you great flavor and taste. With all the spectacular health benefits to eating lobster, it really is the coup de grace for special occasion meals.

Tingling Sensation Every Morning? Is It Arthritis?

The aging process brings many unpleasant things, like developing poor eyesight, feeling sore and achy in the morning and having thick, unsightly toenails thanks to nail fungus. It can also bring mysterious symptoms that seem to pop up out of nowhere. Morning soreness and stiffness is pretty common, but what if you wake up with a burning or tingling sensation in your feet or hands? That could be a sign of something more serious that you really should see your doctor about.
This tingling sensation is one of the many symptoms associated with rheumatoid arthritis. This is a bit different from osteoarthritis, which occurs when your joints experience wear and tear with age. Rheumatoid arthritis is actually a long-term autoimmune condition that develops when your immune system sees healthy tissue as an enemy and attacks it. With rheumatoid arthritis, this ends up causing inflammation in the joints and the tissues around the joints. In more serious cases, it can lead to inflammation in the organs as well. You don't necessarily have to be older to get this condition, but it does tend to occur more in people, especially women, who are middle aged or older. No one knows exactly what causes rheumatoid arthritis, but it might have something do with genetics, hormonal changes or infections.
A tingling sensation in your feet or hands usually isn't the first sign of this condition. You might have experienced earlier signs of it without realizing it. The first signs of rheumatoid arthritis are typically mild pain and stiffness in the joints in certain areas on both sides of your body, like your feet, fingers, knees or wrists. Your joints might also feel a little warm to the touch when you first wake up. The pain and stiffness usually lasts for about an hour in the morning. Fatigue is also another early sign of this condition. Tingling and burning can gradually develop over time, as well as chest pain when you're breathing in, burning or itchy eyes, trouble sleeping and a dry mouth and eyes.
Making an appointment with your doctor is very important since rheumatoid arthritis needs to be carefully managed in order to avoid serious complications, such as organ inflammation and permanent joint damage. Your doctor will run tests to see if you have this condition. If so, your doctor will recommend a treatment plan, which generally includes antirheumatic or anti-inflammatory medication, regular exercise and physical therapy. Even if you haven't experienced any of the other symptoms of this condition, it's still a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor. This kind of tingling can also be caused by other conditions, including carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetes and nerve disorders.
Having a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis doesn't mean you're doomed to a life full of joint pain. The earlier you start managing this condition, the better off you'll feel overall. So, don't ignore that morning tingling in your hands or feet. Set up an appointment with your doctor, so you won't have to keep worrying about what's causing it.

Asthma and Air Purification

If you have a child with asthma or you suffer from asthma than you might want to create a safer environment at home by removing things that trigger asthma. Careful observation on your part as well as some help from your doctor can go a long way in helping your child. Asthma is basically a disease of respiratory tract characterized by symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath and tightness in chest. While you can not control the genetic factors that cause asthma but certainly environmental factors are in your hand.
Maintaining quality of air inside your home is an important way of managing asthma. Room filters or cleaners are quickly gaining popularity as one of the ways of controlling asthma symptoms. They are even helpful to those who suffer from chronic bronchitis or hay fever. Room filters or room air cleaners might even come in handy if you are living with a smoker (although its advisable to avoid smoking in home if any member of the family suffers from asthma).
Room air cleaners work by removing small particles from the air. There are many varieties available in the market. HEPA filters are probably one of the best known mechanical air filters available. Its fan forces the air inside the room to pass through a screen which traps the allergens, dust particles and smoke. Directing the fan towards carpet or curtains will cause the dust to rise that can prove harmful. There are two major drawbacks for HEPA filters. One is the amount of electricity consumed while running HEPA filters and the other is noise that the running fan makes which can be quite annoying.
Electronic air filters come with electronic charges that are capable of attracting allergens. The irritants are captured on a collecting plate attached to the device. The drawback: they create ozone, which is a major cause in giving rise to asthma symptoms because it irritates airway. Having said that, ozone generators might also not be such a good idea. Ozone generators produce large amounts of ozone to clean the air in the room. Again they might prove more harmful than useful for asthma patients.
Gas phase air filters remove odors and gases from the air. They do so with the help of carbon granules. Germicidal air filters are effective in cleaning air by killing viruses and bacteria. The germs get killed from the UV light as they pass through the filter. Another option might be installing HVAC systems in homes the are air-conditioned or heated through ducts. Even though this method might prove to be economical but the drawbacks include the production of ozone as a by-product and these systems are capable of filtering large particles but not small ones.
With so many options available in the market one should think carefully before purchasing any type of air filter. It is important to consider your budget and get an estimate of what might it cost you to run the filter all year-round. Secondly, you should consider how much noise its going to make and whether or not its suitable for your bedroom or the entire house. Keep in mind that installing an air purifier at home may not be enough and you will still have to remove allergen causing agents such as carpets or pets from your house.

Why a Low-Fat Diet Is Killing You

With someone in North America dying of a cardiovascular disease (CVD) every 39 seconds, it is no wonder CVD is such a prominent health concern in our society. Unfortunately, despite heart disease being one of the most talked about health risks, it also happens to be one of the most mistreated and misdiagnosed conditions around. For half a century, people have been following medical advice based on outdated research on CVD. When it comes to the prevention and treatment of the disease, low fat and low cholesterol diets have been recommended and backed by the medical community for decades. This belief that diets high in cholesterol and saturated fat are building blocks in the development of CVD is so deeply engrained in our society that people refuse to believe the more current and respected research.
Only a small portion of the cholesterol in your body comes from diet, as the body cannot absorb a large portion of the cholesterol you ingest. In fact, the liver creates 75% of your body's total cholesterol. Your body has the ability to regulate cholesterol in the blood and modifies internal production levels based on dietary intake. If you do not ingest enough cholesterol, the body makes more and if you ingest higher amounts of cholesterol, the body makes less. Recent studies have shown that cholesterol intake through diet has little to no effect on blood cholesterol levels of most people. Basically, eating cholesterol is not going to give you a heart attack and lowering your cholesterol intake will do relatively nothing to your body's overall blood cholesterol levels. Saturated fat has also been one of the medical industry's main concerns when it comes to CVD as it has been said to raise cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. Current research is not in agreement with this theory and has found that instead of being harmful, saturated fat can actually have a positive effect on your cardiovascular health.
When it comes to saturated fat, although some studies have found that diets high in saturated fat increase blood cholesterol levels, more recent and longer-term studies have found little to no connection between the two. Several other studies conducted on low carb diets, which are often high in saturated fat, have concluded that saturated fats actually have a positive effect on cardiovascular health and CVD risk markers/factors. Low-carb diets high in saturated fat have been linked to weight loss and have neither decreased nor increased the amount of LDL ("bad cholesterol") in the bloodstream. These studies have found many health improvements in their participants related to saturated fat intake, including its positive effects on blood pressure, BMI, abdominal circumference, etc. Overall, many of the more recent and respected research has found that saturated fat is linked to a lower risk of CVD as well as stroke.
In 2008, American's spent $300 billion dollars on cardiovascular disease; almost double what it would take to end world hunger. In reality, heart disease can be treated with much less cost and a much higher success rate by a change in diet and a few other lifestyle changes. The key to a happy, healthy heart is not found in cholesterol lowering medications or low fat-diets. A word of caution. Medical advice/trends do not change with research. Medical advice tends to change with funerals. As opinion makers die, new people with new leadership and new ideas tend to change practice guidelines. Don't be discouraged if your doctor doesn't agree with this. Statin drugs are the leading class of drugs being sold on this planet. Billions of dollars are spent every year on lowering cholesterol. There is a lot of "love" in support of the "cholesterol is bad" camp. It isn't going away anytime soon. Do your research and take control of your health. It is yours to take care of, not your doctor's.

Types of Kidney Disease

Our kidneys are very important to us. Without actively functioning kidneys, the presence of kidney disease can be devastating for a person. In the worst case scenario, an individual will need to be on dialysis or receive a kidney transplant to replace the diseased kidneys.
There are several different types of kidney disease, some of which are worse than others. Kidney disease can be "acute", meaning it is of a fast onset or "chronic" meaning the decline in kidney function is slow. Both kinds of kidney disease can be due to autoimmune disorders, toxins, medications or infections. Diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure can gradually worsen the function of the kidneys.
Another classification of kidney disease occurs when the kidneys leak out certain body fluids or substances. One of these diseases is hematuria or blood in the urine. This can come from sickened kidneys that leak out blood cells from the capillaries in the kidneys. The other is fairly common and is called proteinuria. Proteinuria is when protein, mostly albumin, leaks out from the body. This can become so great that there is not enough protein in the blood of the rest of the body. We need our protein to keep the fluid in the blood vessels and without it, fluid leaks out into the tissues all over the body. This condition is known as "nephrotic syndrome".
The presence of kidney stones is another kidney disease. This can occur when a person secretes too much calcium oxalate into the urine and doesn't drink enough water. Uric acid can cause kidney stones as well. The calcium oxalate or the uric acid builds up in the urinary area of the kidneys and precipitates into a stone that, if passed, becomes very painful. Kidney stones do not fit well in the ureters and they get stuck, causing a back of urine and extreme pain. Infections can occur with kidney stones as well.
Hypertension can cause kidney disease or, in some cases, the medications that treat hypertension (high blood pressure) can cause kidney problems. In some cases, a person has a blockage of one or both arteries leading to the kidneys. The kidneys respond by releasing vasopressin which causes the blood pressure to rise remarkably. There are specific blood pressure medications that address this problem. In some cases, surgery to correct the blockage may need to be done.
Chronic pyelonephritis is another kidney disease. This is a condition where infection seeds into the kidneys (one or both) and causes chronic pain and inflammation in the kidneys. Hematuria can result from this type of kidney infection.
There is one primary kidney disease which is cancerous. Renal cell carcinoma is a type of kidney disease that can occur spontaneously. The cancer can cause pain or bleeding in the area of the kidneys. A CT scan of the abdomen can detect this form of kidney disease. Often, if the cancer doesn't extend beyond the outer capsule of the kidney, the kidney can be removed and the cancer is highly treatable.
Kidney disease can be hereditary. There are a number of rare hereditary kidney diseases that result in leakage of blood or protein from the kidneys. These diseases can sometimes be managed medically but, in other cases, dialysis or kidney transplant are necessary to cure the underlying problem.

Lactose Intolerant or Dairy Allergy?

How do you know you're lactose intolerant? How do you know if you have an allergy to dairy? It turns out there is a difference between having an allergy to a food and intolerance. Food allergies are related to the immune system but an intolerance is not.
Diary is the most common encountered food allergen in infancy. I have encountered this firsthand as my son has a true food allergy which means his immune system thinks his food is a bacteria or a virus. If he consumes dairy then his body becomes very unhappy with him. If you have a food allergy then your body will release an antibody that attacks the protein in the food. This is an immune reaction to the protein in milk. The body is naturally responding to the bad protein that is found in dairy (RBST and RBGH). Some of the signs of the allergy are:
  • Vomiting
  • Rashes (eczema)
  • Diarrhea
  • Face Swelling
  • Difficulty breathing
These symptoms may occur at different intervals. Some occur in minutes, some occur in digestion, some occur 20 hours after ingesting. Most of the time they appear on the skin in the form of eczema. For my son he had eczema for a long time before we understood the cause. Also, when he would consume dairy he would immediately begin coughing. This can be frustrating for a parent that is ignorant of what is going in their child's body.
On the other hand a food intolerance can be a little more serious in the development of a child. Ho do you know if you or your child is lactose intollerant? To begin, when you are a baby your body produces and enzyme called lactase that allows your body to digest lactose. An intolerance is thought to be caused by lacking lactase that is needed to digest lactose. It also can have many sysmptons:
  • Colic
  • Flutlence
  • Eczema
  • Bloating
  • Reflux
  • Headaches
An intolerance or allergy can be detected easily by being tested by an allergy doctor. Also, for the breast feeding mothers out there your son or daughter could be affected by breast feeding if your diet is high in dairy. If you are breast feeding and you notice these symptoms in your child you should avoid dairy. It is better for you and the child to breast feed rather than use formula.
If you or a loved one is allergic or intolerant then you should avoid all dairy products and those that can contain diary such as:
  • Butter
  • Yogurt
  • Cheese
  • Condensed milk
  • Buttermilk
  • Custard
  • Cream
  • Ice cream
We have had to become religious in checking the labels for all the foods that we buy so that we do not accidentally get something that contains dairy. You would be surprised to know that these foods contain dairy: hot dogs, chocolate, processed meat, scones, waffles. You also have to be cognizant of the hidden milks. If you read the label and see casein or lactose then you should avoid this product.

Green Tea: Know How to Avoid Killer Diseases Like Cancer, Diabetes and Heart Attack

In line with today's modernization are an increased number of people dying from diseases like Cancer, Heart Attack and Diabetes. You can set yourself away from all the danger of acquiring these diseases simply by drinking Green Tea. Despite its powerhouse benefits, you seem to ignore this majestic drink and instead, spend all your hard earned money in buying expensive commercial supplements.
It comes from the plant, Camellia Sinensis. Tea's like Black Tea, Oolong, White Tea and Green Tea came from that same plant. The only difference is the way they were processed. The ECGC (epigallocatechin gallate) is much prominent in it due to the steaming process that it has gone through. This is a powerful source of anti-oxidant which is bound to combat even the most dangerous diseases.
Cancer is one of the leading killer diseases that have growing numbers of victims each day. By drinking it, you lessen the possibility by 70% of being not included on the list. The EGCG compound prevents and kills cancer cells without harming the healthy tissue that surrounds them.
Heart disease is also very crucial. Therefore, aside from your prescription, a cup or two of this mystic drink will certainly make a difference. It helps your blood vessel feel relax and also prevents any clot from forming. Not only will you protect yourself from heart attack, you are also protecting yourself from other illnesses.
Another alarming disease that can be prevented and treated is type II Diabetes. It maintains your glucose level and also prevents insulin spike. This way, every time you indulge yourself with desserts, you can safely put your sugar level at bay by drinking green tea regularly.
And to those who are in cholesterol watch, instantly include green tea on your list. It increases your HDL cholesterol level as it lowers the LDL cholesterol. This will keep you away from high blood pressure and bad cholesterol.
Apart from countering any internal diseases, it can also keep your dermatologist and dentist away. The Catechin content delays signs of ageing and prevents acne from forming. The anti-bacterial and anti-viral aspect of green tea also prevents tooth decay.
Lastly, losing weight is the most common reason why people choose to drink green tea. It increases your metabolism and keeps your body in good condition due its detoxifying elements. Together with exercise, green tea and eating the right foods, achieving that dream figure is never impossible.
Green teas are no different from other beverages. There is no certainty up to how much you can safely consume during the day. But then, understanding your body's response will guide you in figuring out how much your body can contain. Since it would be very hard to distinguish each and every food's effect on your body, green tea will do the job in replenishing and cleansing your body back to its healthy condition, leaving you worry-free and happy.

Learning About H Pylori and Peptic Ulcers

What is a peptic ulcer?
H. pylori bacteria can cause peptic ulcers-sores on the lining of the stomach or duodenum.
A sore on the lining of the stomach or small intestine is called a peptic ulcer. Less commonly, a ulcer may develop just above the stomach in the esophagus, the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach.
In the stomach its called a gastric ulcer. If it occurs in the small intestine, it is a duodenal ulcer. People can have both gastric and duodenal ulcers at the same time. They also can develop peptic ulcers more than once in their lifetime.
Peptic ulcers are not rare. Each year in the United States, about half a million people develop the ulcer.11Ramakrishnan K, Salinas RC. Peptic ulcer disease. American Family Physician. 2007;76(7):1005-1012.
What are the causes?
A bacterium called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a major cause of peptic ulcers. Aspirin and ibuprofen also cause ulcers. Rarely, cancerous or noncancerous tumors in the stomach, duodenum, or pancreas cause ulcers.
Ulcers are not caused by stress or eating spicy food, but both can make ulcer symptoms worse. Drinking and smoking can cause ulcers, too.
What is H. pylori?
H. pylori is a type of bacteria-a germ that may cause infection. H. pylori infection is common, particularly in developing countries, and often begins in childhood. Usually, symptoms only present themselves in adulthood.
H. pylori causes more than half of peptic ulcers worldwide.2 The bacterium causes peptic ulcers by damaging the mucous coating that protects the stomach and duodenum. There is damage to the stomach lining and this allows stomach acid to get to the sensitive lining. Together, the stomach acid and H. pylori irritate the lining of the stomach or duodenum and cause an ulcer.
Yet, most people infected with H. pylori never develop ulcers. No one knows why. Most likely, development of ulcers depends on characteristics of the infected person; the type, or strain, of H. pylori present; and factors researchers have yet to discover.
2Helicobacter pylori and peptic ulcer disease; economics of peptic ulcer disease and H. pylori infection. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Accessed February 23, 2009.
How is H. pylori spread?
Researchers are not certain how H. pylori is transmitted, although they think it may be spread through contaminated food or water. Bad food or water, not washed or purified properly, can have the bacteria.
The infection can spread from person to person. Studies suggest that having contact with the stool or vomit of an infected person can spread H. pylori infection. And H. pylori has been found in the saliva of some infected people, which means infection could be spread through direct contact with saliva.
What are the symptoms of a peptic ulcer?
The most common symptom of ulcers is abdominal pain. Felt anywhere between the navel and the breastbone, this discomfort usually
  • is a dull or burning pain
  • occurs when the stomach is empty-between meals or during the night
  • may be briefly relieved by eating food, in the case of duodenal ulcers, or by taking antacids, in both types of peptic ulcers
  • lasts for minutes to hours
  • comes and goes for several days or weeks
Other symptoms include
  • weight loss
  • poor appetite
  • bloating
  • burping
  • nausea
  • vomiting
There are some sufferers who suffer no symptoms.
Emergency Symptoms
A person who has any of the following symptoms should call a doctor right away:
  • sharp, sudden, persistent, and severe stomach pain
  • bloody or black stools
  • bloody vomit or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
These symptoms might be a sign of a serious problem:
  • bleeding-when acid or the peptic ulcer breaks a blood vessel
  • perforation-when the peptic ulcer burrows completely through the stomach or duodenal wall
  • obstruction-when the peptic ulcer blocks the path of food trying to leave the stomach
How is an H. pylori-induced ulcer diagnosed?
Noninvasive Techniques
If you have an ulcer, your doctor will first ask you about over-the-counter drugs you are taking. Patients who are taking an NSAID are asked to stop, reduce the dose, or switch to another medication.
Then the doctor tests to see if H. pylori is present. Getting tested is important because H. pylori-induced ulcers are treated differently than ulcers caused by NSAIDs.
Doctors use one of three simple, noninvasive tests to detect H. pylori in a patient's blood, breath, or stool. Because the breath test and stool test more accurately detect H. pylori than the blood test, some doctors prefer to use one of these two tests. The following tests are usually outpatient tests:
Blood test. A blood sample is taken from the patient's vein and tested for H. pylori antibodies. Antibodies are substances the body produces to fight invading harmful substances-called antigens-such as the H. pylori bacterium.
Urea breath test. A patient takes something labeled with a special atom of carbon. After a few minutes, the patient breathes into a container, exhaling carbon dioxide. If the carbon atom is found in the exhaled breath, H. pylori is present, as this bacterium contains large amounts of urease, a chemical that breaks urea down into carbon dioxide and ammonia.
Stool antigen test. A stool sample is tested for H. pylori antigens.
Can H. pylori infection be prevented?
No one knows for sure how H. pylori spreads, so prevention is difficult. Doctors are trying to find a vaccine to cure H. pylori infection. To help prevent infection, doctors advise people to
  • wash their hands with soap and water after using the bathroom and before eating
  • eat food that has been washed well and cooked properly
  • drink water from a clean, safe source

Permanent Cellulite Removal - Cheap Cellulite Treatment That Works

The term cellulite was created years ago in Europe, and was made up to describe that cottage cheese looking lumpy stuff that most women experience on their legs, thighs, stomach, arms, and buttocks.
Underneath the top layer of your skin is a layer of muscle, and tissue. The condition of these muscles will determine whether or not you have cellulite. If these muscles are not used regularly they will become weak, and sloppy. This condition is known to be muscular atrophy. If this muscle layer has been properly stimulated, you will not have cellulite.
Now do you see why dieting, massages, creams, brushes, scrubs, and anti cellulite clothing could never remove cellulite? There is no need for special workout equipment, or expensive gym memberships either.
What does get rid of that orange peel look? Well, since cellulite is a muscle problem it can be repaired by using simple and unique body movements which target the cellulite areas. This is known as synergistic muscle layer stimulation, (SY-Mu-La-St) for short.
This form of exercise can be followed by any female, regardless of her age or fitness level. And it doesn't matter if the cellulite started in the early teen years - or after pregnancy - or after menopause - it's still a structural issue that is the direct result of soft, un-toned muscles hidden underneath loose, mushy, dimpled skin. The proper term for this is muscular atrophy, and it must be reversed in order to reach permanent cellulite removal.
Synergistic muscle stimulation exercise is known for working miracles against cellulite chunks, and dimples. There are 9 basic easy to do exercises that go to work immediately smoothing out your skin's surface. Make no mistake, these moves are not for weight loss! Hair Transplant: An Effective Hair Loss Treatment

Hair transplant technique is becoming a popular choice in the world today. This can highly boost the character or personality of an individual. Follicle transplant are of different types. This includes strip, slit, micro, mini and punch grafting techniques. In addition to the follicle grafting, the patients also undergo scalp reduction or tissue expansion treatment.
Hair fall reasons
Hair loss is mainly caused due to hormonal imbalance, genetic inheritance and age-related factors. If follicular damage starts at an early age, then the baldness problem gets extremely critical. Hair loss can also be caused by tension or burning injuries. In such cases, the transplant therapy is just the ideal solution. These have a proven track record for many years now. So you do not need to worry about their efficiency.
Tuft grafting technique enhances the style quotient of an individual. With these, you will always have a high self-confidence. Talk to the surgeon about your needs before you undergo the surgery. Have a proper understanding about the regeneration treatment before the surgery. Then you will always have a high confidence about the treatment process.
Ideal candidates for such transplant
The candidates for a transplant need to have healthy locks on the side and back of the head. These serve as the donor areas during the grafting. The follicles are mainly collected from this donor area. Certain factors such as hair colour, texture and curliness alter the replacement technique. Different grafting techniques are available today. We can combine two or more methods for better results. Patients with low tuft growth are not ideal candidates for the replacement.
Hair transplant is a specialised treatment. Before you go for this surgery, you need to find a good replacement surgeon. Experienced doctors have a vast knowledge about different regeneration techniques. Therefore, you can definitely turn down a doctor if he is conversant with only one form of surgery.
When you meet the doctor for the first time, he should thoroughly inspect your hair growth. The surgeon should check the tuft loss as well. Best Prostate Cancer Treatment

Prostate Cancer Treatments
Of the prostate cancer treatments available, your doctor will recommend the treatment option that is best for you. The decision will depend on your overall health and how far advanced your cancer is. If the treatment recommended for you is not something you're comfortable with, for instance you may not be comfortable with external beam radiation therapy; you can give your doctor your opinion. It's important that you are at ease with the decision. Discuss it with your family as well, particularly the possible side effects and cure rate.
Oncologists specialize in certain fields. The one you are referred to will be a specialist in the treatment prescribed for you.
Watching and Waiting
The first strategy in most treatment plans is watching and waiting. The signs and symptoms that may indicate prostate cancer are also indications of other problems such as an infection in or close to your prostate. Watching and waiting is to determine which condition your symptoms are from.
During this period, blood samples will be tested for PSA levels and tissue samples may be sent for a biopsy.Elevated levels of the prostate specific antigen may point to a less serious medical problem. This is why a tissue sample may be taken; to verify or to rule out the presence of cancer. Remember that early treatment usually has a better possibility of cure.
Men who are the best candidates for prostate cancer surgery are the ones most likely to achieve a successful recovery from the procedure. These are men with good overall health and who do not have secondary conditions that may interfere with recovery like heart problems. Surgery can lead to some serious side effects including incontinence and impotence.
There are 3 different types of radiation therapies. External beam therapy is typically a stream of X-rays aimed at your pelvis from a device outside the body. The X-rays burn away cancer cells through repeated treatments over several weeks.
An alternative external beam therapy is Proton Beam Therapy. Instead of using X-rays, protons, which are charged particles or ions, are streamed at your pelvis, again from a device outside your body.
Brachytherapy is the introduction of several radioactive seeds directly into your prostate. They are implanted with a series of injections while you are under a general anesthetic.
All of the radiation treatments above work on the principle of burning cancer cells away with high energy particles. Radiation treatment can take place over time, and is subject to the same side effects as surgery.
Hormone Therapies
Hormone therapy is a method of chemical treatment that seeks to alter your hormone levels to halt or slow the growth of cancer cells. This procedure is temporary because most patients develop a resistance to the effectiveness of the injections after about 2 years.
Hormone therapy is not a cure and is usually recommended when the patient has a higher stage (T-3 or T-4) of prostate cancer. The idea is to prolong the patient's life and slow the cancer's growth.
Cryotherapy is a procedure where, during surgery, your prostate is frozen and then thawed to destroy cancer cells.
High Intensity Focused Ultrasound uses focused ultrasound to heat and evaporate diseased tissue out of your prostate. The device is aimed using an MRI scan and targeted tissue is heated to 80°C. The result is tissue that can no longer reproduce and so cannot grow any further. Healthy tissue is spared because the effective area of the ultrasound pulse is very small and only a few cubic mm at a time can be targeted. It is done on an out-patient basis and does not affect the quality of life that some of the other treatments do. HIFU also results in fewer significant side effects than surgery or radiation. HIFU for prostate cancer is highly effective and can often be used for recurrent cancer. This is not an option, however, once the cancer has spread beyond the prostate.

Acne Treatment The First Step To Clear Skin

The host of cosmetic products that line the shelves of shops is evidence that people care a great deal about the way they look. The most important step you can take, in order to make sure that you always look your best, is to maintain your skin. You must take special care of your skin and make sure that it is healthy and looks good.
If you do not find time to do this, it could result in skin conditions. People often think that acne is another word for pimples. However, this is not true, the condition can occur on your face, back, shoulder and even the chest. It can be very irritating and even embarrassing when you find you have to go for an event but you have a pimple on your face.
In order to nip the problem in the bud, you first need to understand the causes of acne. It occurs when, the hair follicles get clogged with dead skin cells and naturally secreted oil. This causes a rash to appear on the skin. It takes a fair bit of time for the rashes to resolve and you will notice as one goes another one seems to come in its place. This can be extremely embarrassing and can leave a person in distress.
You must select an acne treatment depending on your skin, and its sensitivity. This is very important in order to make sure that the problem does not reoccur. Changes to your lifestyle and the things that you eat can also go a long way in making sure that acne remains something of the past. Let us take a look at the various treatment options that you can try at home:
  • Most skin problems can be resolved by keeping your skin clean and oil-free. This being said, it is very important to wash you face regularly. A gentle face wash is exactly what you need. Avoid using scrubs and exfoliators as this irritates the skin and could result in the acne getting worse.
  • If you find pimples developing along the roots of your hair, make it a point to shampoo regularly. Keeping your hair clean and sweat-free will help to make sure that the skin around it is clean and free from irritation.
  • There are a number of pimple creams that are available in the market. These products work to dry out the affected area and enable it to peel off. This will help to speed up the process of clearing your skin.
  • Greasy cosmetics like lotions, sun-block and hair styling products can result in clogging of the pores, causing acne. Hence, it is important to avoid using these products on a daily bases and if you do, you must make it a point to wash them out and clean your skin thoroughly.
  • If you are suffering from a skin condition, avoid touching the infected area. Refrain from picking at it or pocking it, as this can cause scaring in the long run.
If these do not help in your battle to keep acne under control, you could try visiting a doctor and have him prescribe treatment. Thus, the clear skin you have always dreamed of will be yours.

5 Tips That My Friend Shared With Me For Life After a Stem Cell Transplant

Sophia was diagnosed with stage III myeloma, which is a type of blood cancer. She was working as a teacher in an engineering college. The diagnosis came as a shock for her. She needed a stem cell transplant to produce blood in her body and also some other components for her immune system to work. Her own stem cells were recovered and harvested in a system. These cells were then put back into her body intravenously. After a 3-weeks hospital stay, she returned to her home to face a new set of challenges. Here are 5 tips that she shared with me to recover from the transplant.
1.Read the post-transplant manual
Ignorance is bliss, but it can be pretty dangerous for you if you have just returned home after a transplant. There is no substitute for staying updated about the post-transplant care. Get help for readying your home. Nothing could be better than a disinfected, and clutter-free home. Let your family and friends take up the task of dusting, organizing, laundry, and vacuuming. And you enjoy the break from the household work!
2.Keep talking and laughing - even in isolation
Infection is a major concern for the patient. Sophia had to limit face to face interactions with her family and friends for 2-3 weeks. During this period, they would wear masks and gloves.
However, you can always talk and laugh with your near and dear ones using Skype and other video chatting technologies. Sophia had to wait for about 30 days before her first public outing.
3.Do not attempt to do everything on your own; recognize your limitations
Managing 3 small children can be a tough job. So, Sophia would take a nap in the afternoon before her 3 school going kids would come back. This would energize and prepare her for the late afternoon and early evening rush.
Her husband would take over the household tasks once he arrived from his office.
4.Build up your strength
After the bone marrow transplant, you may feel as weak a new born baby. And you'll have to start all over again. Sophia started walking in her small garden the first few days, and then went on increasing distance and time outside. She gradually but continuously built up her strength.
5.If you have kids, adapt to stay safe
Sophia could be around her kids as long as they were not sick. Kids too didn't mind wearing masks and gloves during the first few weeks. Safety was the top-most priority, at least during the first 100 days after transplant. So when the kids would jump off their school bus and reach home, hand wash and cloth changing were the first requirement.
Sophia is pretty well these days. And she always takes out time to pray, love, and be loved. The message that Sophia gives is clear: there is life after stem cell or bone marrow transplant.
Don't give up if you have been diagnosed with cancer. Bone marrow transplant /stem cell transplant is a life-saving procedure, and with the tips shared above you can recover quickly after the transplant. Don't give up. Live your life to the fullest.

3 Tips on How to Build Muscle Fast Without Using Weights or Machines

is that they are not always practical or expedient. For instance, some people have no time to go to a commercial gym and they may not be able to afford to buy standard exercise machines and weights to workout at home. However, here are some effective yet little known tips which will help you build muscles just as fast even without resorting to using weights or exercise machines.
1. Eat a diet rich in proteins
In the clamor to promote ever new exercise routines for muscle builders, many health and wellness experts forget to tell their pupils that ultimately; without taking the right nutrients, all those workouts are in vain. Muscles are made of proteins and taking a sufficient quantity will help you bulk even faster. The recommended daily protein intake for women is 46 grams while men need 53 grams. Pregnant women and those who are breastfeeding require even more proteins.
2. Exercise your core muscles five times a week
Plank exercises are especially effective when it comes to strengthening and building up your chest and arm muscles. To perform a plank exercise, spread a yoga mat on the floor and lie on your stomach with your body held straight. Resting your weight on your forearms and toes, steadily raise your body and hold it up for fifteen seconds. Repeat this at least twice before resting. Gradually increase the duration of each plank up to a minute.
An exercise ball can also be used to effectively build your core muscles by performing back extensions and crunches. To perform a back extension exercise, lie on your stomach on the exercise ball. Lift your body off the ball using your back muscles. Repeating the process for at least 15 back extensions daily should be enough.
For crunches, place the ball beneath your lower back with the knees bent on the floor. You should then lift your back a couple of inches off the ball. A total of 25 extensions per exercise session are recommended for strengthening and building up your back muscles.
3. Backpack Pushups
Pushups are universally recognized as effective muscle building exercises and their simple yet intensive routine adds an extra measure of appeal. However, your body can adjust quickly to the stress produced by run-of-the-mill pushups making your regular routine ineffective in your bid to build up muscles fast.
Some innovative wellness experts have realized that pushups can be made even more effective if they are performed while carrying a backpack. The amount of weight in the backpack will depend on your own needs and endurance.
If you have been struggling to build up muscles, the cause of your frustration may not necessarily be lack of exertion but rather using ineffective means to achieve results. In fact, many people believe that you can only build muscles quickly if you invest in costly exercise machines and weights. As the tips above illustrate however, you do not need to go to such lengths to build muscles fast.

Please! No More Lower Back Pain

Back pain symptoms can be as minor as a dull ache or as painful as a stabbing sensation. Injury, heavy lifting, and sleeping on a sagging mattress can all lead to back pain. This type of pain can make daily tasks and sleeping very uncomfortable and sometimes impossible.
What Causes Lower Back Pain?
It is difficult to pinpoint the cause of lower back problems. However, there are some common culprits to watch for:
  • Unsupportive, Sagging Mattress
  • Overzealous Workout
  • Heavy Lifting
  • Overstuffed Bags and Purses
  • Bad Posture
  • Spinal Problems or Herniated Discs
Treatment Options at Home
There are numerous treatment options you can easily try in your home. If you have a sagging mattress you can replace your sagging mattress or use a support system you insert under the sagging mattress. For dull pains you can try to relieve symptoms by taking a warm bath or cautiously applying a heating pad to the tender area.
Yoga helps prevent back pain but also helps relieve symptoms of lower back pain. Essential oils can also help relieve symptoms and can be used to prevent muscle strains in the lower back. Lie down on a non-sagging mattress and have your partner gently massage your lower back.
Other home prevention and treatment options are even simpler than replacing your sagging mattress. Lifting heavy objects with your legs rather than your back can make a big difference in preventing back pain.
Seeking Treatment from a Professional
Chiropractors and message therapists use various techniques developed to treat lower back pain. Some techniques include spinal manipulation, deep tissue massage, or acupressure. Studies have shown that massage therapy can help reduce symptoms of chronic lower back pain.
Acupuncture has worked for many to reduce symptoms of any back problems. Some also choose physical therapy to help strengthen muscles and educate on beneficial stretches and exercise routines that will relieve and prevent back pain. Professionals can direct you as to which treatment methods are best and may advise you to replace your sagging mattress and purchase a more supportive sleeping surface.
Pay attention to your body. Feel for signs of pain more often than you would check to see if you have a sagging mattress or not. If back problems persist or become worse after trying these treatment options you may choose to visit your physician and receive x-rays to ensure the spine is unharmed.
You have to care to your sleep, sleeping well is the basis of your day and could also even mean how you develop your day-to-day lifestyle with your success and failures too. Sleeping well will keep you in a good mood, and of course keeping you away from any inconvenience and pain that you might have.

Salty Taste in Mouth

Saltiness in mouth is one of the most common and ignored phenomenon in the world. Though it is not that big a problem, it can be annoying; if ignored. The condition involves constant salty taste in mouth. People suffering from the problem overlook it, as they do not know the reasons and causes for its occurrence
What Causes Saltiness in Mouth?

Side effect of certain medications, such as anti-thyroid medications and chemotherapy drugs.
Salivary gland diseases, such as Sjogren's syndrome or bacterial infection of the salivary glands (sialadenitis).

Salty Taste Is Driving Me Crazy
About four years ago I was diagnosed with Breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy with no node involvement. The night following the surgery was the worst in my life. I was not in pain, but I could not sit still or sleep. Following the surgery, I was unable to eat anything but bread and coffee for about a year. The thought of eating other food was repulsive. After a year my eating habits returned to normal. For the past month I have started to have a salty taste in my mouth.
It may be a form of neuropathy caused by medications or an illness. You should report this to your doctor. Also, try Biotene moisturizers (sold in stores like Longs, Target, Safeway, etc. and online), toothpaste, gum, and sprays. Keeping your mouth moist is important to prevent infection (thrush and/or bacteria), dental caries, or other damage to your mouth/tongue.
