Split Fingernails and Omega 3 Deficiency

Do Split Fingernails indicate Omega 3 Deficiency? Yes they do. Lack of essential fatty acids or EFAs in our diet can be observed through various symptoms. These include dry and itchy skin, joint problems, brittle hair and nails, acne and more. Keep reading to know more about these.
Omega 3 fats are polyunsaturated fats that are good for our heart, brain, joints and skin. Studies show that more than 85% of the Western population is deficient in omega 3. This is a huge number considering the endless health benefits of essential fatty acids.
One of the most common symptoms of the lack of essential fatty acids is acne and skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema. Our skin is a reflection of our diet and this stands absolutely true in the case of EPA and DHA deficiency.
There are various symptoms of omega 3 fatty acids deficiency. These include excessive thirst, dry and flaky skin, brittle hair and nails, joint pain, frequent urination, irritable behavior, extreme mood swings, slow wound healing and chronic inflammations.
However, including more cold-water fatty fishes such as salmon, tuna, Hoki, mackerel and sardines can provide respite from these problems. Other than fish green leafy vegetables, walnuts, hemp seeds, flaxseed oil and canola oil are also a good source of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Joint problems such as arthritis and inflammation are also a sign of EFA deficiency. Fish oils help in improving blood circulation throughout the body and inhibit the formation of blood platelets. This provides relief from Reynaud's disease, varicose veins and joint pain.
Fish oil supplements are essential for the healthy functioning of our brain. They are beneficial in treating mental disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, Alzheimer's disease and ADHD. Children who consume fish oil regularly have better memory and higher I.Q. levels.
EPA and DHA fats control cholesterol levels in the blood stream and protect against cardiovascular disorders. They are very effective in controlling blood sugar levels in the blood and help in treating diabetes.
Superior quality Fish oils can provide relief from various physical and mental problems. But not just any fish oil, you need molecular distilled oils that are free of all toxins such as mercury, PCBs and other contaminants.
Also make sure that the supplement you use has a high percentage of EPA and DHA fats. One such product is the Fish oil extracted from the Hoki fish, found in New Zealand. Oil extracted from the Hoki fish has approx. 40% higher DHA content than other supplements.
Split fingernails indicate omega 3 deficiency but there can be more severe symptoms too. To keep yourself and your loved ones healthy, regularly consume Pharmaceutical grade, molecularly distilled fish oil supplements.

Effective Alternative Brain Cancer Treatment

This is caused due to the formation of cancer cells) on the inner surface of skulls or on the brain's tissue-cells. It is also known as intracranial tumor as it can be developed on any location or part of the brain and is a resultant of rapid cell division. The tumors that develop on the brain can be of the following types:
  • Primary tumor: These are further classified into astrocytoma, brain stem glimos, ependymoma, oligodendroglioma and mixed glioma.
  • Secondary or metastatic tumors are cancerous cells.
  • Benign or non-cancerous tumors are less aggressive
  • Malignant tumors have a tendency to spread to other parts of brain or other organs.
Generally, there are four ways to treat to cancer. They are listed down below:
  • Killing cancer cells
  • Destroy the microbes inside the cancer cells
  • To build an immune system and to let that system cure the cancer
  • Microzyma/Somatid: By reverting microbes inside the cancerous cells again into a microbe as in "hibernation".
It is caused due to age, race and family history. Little children and men are highly prone to this disease. Also people who are exposed towards harmful radiations and chemicals like formaldehyde, vinyl chloride and acrylonitrile are highly prone to this disease.
The symptoms include:
  • Severe headache usually in the mornings
  • Vomiting
  • Swelling
  • Surrounding inflammation
  • Weakness
  • Clumsiness
  • Difficulty in walking
  • Difficulty in speech
  • Abnormal vision
  • Changes in emotional reactions or logical sense
Usually CT scans and MRI scans are used for detection of tumors located in brain. The biopsy is examined to confirm whether it is cancer or not. The standard treatment types available are surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The alternative brain cancer treatment aids to ease out the pain, fatigue, retard cancerous cell growth and side-effects. They are listed out below:
  • Nutrition supplements rich in vitamins, antioxidants, green tea, parsleys, proteins etc are given to patients.
  • Herbal medicines provide natural ways to treat cancer.
  • Mind body medicine techniques emphasize on power of thoughts and emotions positively, to control the body.
  • Physical therapy techniques like massage therapy, reflexologies are used to alleviate the pains through manipulative techniques on the affected parts, controlled movements, bending and postures etc.
  • Imagery techniques are useful in offering peace to mind by the way of imagining beautiful natural sceneries, arts, pictures etc.
  • Meditation techniques offer peace to both mind and the body, thereby lessening mental stress caused by the afflictions.
Complementary or Alternative treatments work not only for curing brain cancer, but for curing all cancers practically. But knowledge is of prime essence. The most important thing to know is that chemotherapy, radiation, drugs and surgery are not the only options. Integrative approach is gaining prominence these days. Apart from conventional medical treatments, alternative practices are more beneficial.

How To Repel And Avoid Mosquito Bites Using Natural Remedies

Accompanied with the heat and humidity of summer are pesky, itchy and annoying mosquito bites. Mosquitoes bite because they are attracted to CO2 and lactic acid. If you are a living, breathing mammal, you are a walking target.
I dread the mosquito months and have since I was a child growing up in Florida. I'm plagued by my body's reaction to these small bites that turn into large almost welt-like, itchy raised bumps on my legs and arms. There have been seasons where running out to get the paper in the morning or taking out the trash has inflicted a handful of bites.
Modern technology has created great inventions like the mosquito magnet and the bug zapper but most communities or individuals in the south have not invested in these bug repellents. Apart from putting on topical insect repellent products laced with unhealthy chemicals like DEET that can cause brain toxicity; there are a few alternative options that have yielded positive results in my battle to protect my extremities from mosquito bites.
Over the years, I have asked myself: what products repel insect bites like mosquitoes? I've invested in products like skin-so-soft and OFF mosquito sprays but have always wanted to find a more natural alternative and solution to these bug bites.
Diet can play a very pivitol role in making oneself less attractive to the mosquitoes. Diets high in garlic (and garlic tablets) and B complex can actually change the extremely faint scent of an individual; thus making oneself less attractive to a hungry mosquito. Garlic literally does repel the vampires. Other herbs that are also important in repelling mosquitoes are: citronella, cedar, verbena, geranium, lavender, pine, cinnamon, rosemary, basil, thyme, allspice, and peppermint.
Vitamin B1 has a unique ability to create an obnoxious scent that stops mosquitoes in their tracks. Ingested orally each day, an individual can take 15mgs of B1 for every 30 pounds of body weight.
It is indeed possible to combat mosquitoes naturally and still enjoy the summer months.

Home Remedies for Calcaneal Bone Spurs

Are you looking for relief from your calcaneal heel bone spurs? Do you want to avoid costly surgery? There are other ways to find relief from heel pain caused by heel bone spurs. But before we discuss treatment lets look at what causes the spurs on the calcaneal, and what is the true source of pain. Then I will give you some home remedies that you can try. Many of these remedies can be used with things you have around the house.
The heel pain you are experiencing is most likely from the inflamed ligaments in your foot. what happens is that excess pressure on the fatty pad in the heel of the foot triggers the body to create a calcium deposit on the calcaneal bone. This calcium deposit is pointy and pokes the ligaments in the foot causing painful inflammation.
Those most likely to suffer from heel spurs are middle aged men and women, those who are overweight, athletes, and people who wear shoes with little or no support.
There are ways to decrease the inflammation and rest from heel pain. If you can you need to rest your foot. Sit down and apply ice to reduce inflammation. Or 20 minutes of heat can also increase blood flow and this will reduce inflammation. Another home remedy is to make a paste of flaxseed and apply it to your heel.
For chronic heel spur pain you may need something different. Many chronic sufferers turn to oral pain killers, but these may have undesirable side effects. So what other options are there for calcaneal bone heel spurs? Remember that the initial cause of the bone spur growth is pressure on the fatty pad in the heel. By providing extra cushion in the heel area the pressure on the fatty bad is lessened and the inflammation of the ligaments decreases. There are heel inserts you can buy and place in your shoes. Or you may choose to invest in shoes that provide more padding in the heel area of the foot. If you are overweight you may find relief from heel spurs by losing weight.
Some heel spurs cause pain in the arches. If this is a problem for you foot exercises that stretch out the ligaments may be the answer for you. One exercise that helps relieve heel spur pain is to roll your foot over a water bottle. For more relief freeze before use. Or you may choose to purchase a foot roller, or foot rocker. Some even find relief from applying special creams made to relieve heel spur pain.

How Can You Care For a Slow Healing Open Wound?

Did you ever have a wound or sore that simply does not heal no matter what you try? Perhaps it's even been treated by a physician, but still remains.
This type of wound is characterized by skin deterioration to the point where the underlying tissue is exposed. Such wounds are also called sores or ulcers and can have a variety of causes. But they all have one thing in common --- prompt treatment is important to prevent infection and further deterioration of the surrounding area.
Here are some examples of slow-healing wounds:
  • Ulcers often form on the leg and foot as a complication of diabetes
  • Pressure Sores (also known as bedsores) are caused by constant pressure on an area of the skin
  • Venous Skin Ulcers develop when veins don't allow blood to flow back to the heart normally.
  • A Wound or Open Sore may have many different causes such as incisions, lacerations, abrasions, puncture, penetration, and gunshot
If you have a wound that will not heal in a reasonable period of time, it is always wise to seek medical treatment. But is there something you can do initially to prevent a wound from getting worse and help it heal more quickly?
According to foot surgeon, Dr. Paul R. Glaser, the answer is yes.  He often advises his patients to use a natural-ingredient, over-the-counter topical spray and foam to speed healing on foot wounds including diabetic ulcers, infected ingrown toenails, psoriasis, and post-op lesions. [1]
The results he has seen are often dramatic:
  • Chronic diabetic ulcers have been healed in 6 weeks. [2]
  • Pain and burning is greatly relieved when regularly applied post surgery. [3]
  • The risk of infection is greatly diminished with regular use. [3]
  • Overall healing time after a common surgical procedure has been reduced to 2 to 3 weeks compared with a more usual 3 to 5 weeks with topical antibiotics alone. [4]
Why can a natural product often heal wounds better than prescription drugs? The answer is simple... By using ingredients that support the natural action of the body's immune system, you can achieve the desired result in a safe, non-invasive manner.
For example, some traditional wound care treatments may be quite expensive and have side effects such as higher blood pressure, higher eye pressure (glaucoma), retention of fluid, skin thinning, red lesions and mood swings.
An effective natural treatment can help fight infection and heal the wound without side effects and at significantly lower cost.
For example, the natural treatment Dr. Glaser recommends contains an enzyme (lysozyme) that is found in the tears, saliva, mucus, urine and salt water body fluids. Lysozyme targets harmful bacteria while sparing beneficial ones. The treatment also contains sea salt with all the trace minerals left intact. The sea salt solution provides an ideal pH environment for the lysozyme to operate, as well as nutrients that support new cell growth. This creates a product that's so safe it can be sprayed directly in the eyes or mouth, yet effectively supports and speeds the body's natural healing process.
While you should always consult with your physician for any chronic medical condition, you may find a natural product will encourage your body's own innate healing ability better than conventional preparations.

Home Remedies For Split Corner of Mouth Sores

When you have a split corner of mouth sore it's hard to even smile. The skin in this area is so incredibly sensitive that even the smallest movement causes a great deal of pain. If you've ever had this condition, known as Angular Cheilitis, you know that you're willing to try just about anything to find some relief from the pain and also the redness. There are actually a few simple things you can do at home that really help remedy the situation.
One of the very best things you can do if you do have split corner of mouth sores is to keep the area as dry as possible. Most people automatically think they should apply a moisturizer since the skin when you have Angular Cheilitis tends to be very dry and cracked. Moisturizing it will actually make the problem even worse. So stay away from lip balms as well. Instead focus on not licking your lips and when you do apply creams to your face, keep it away from that area.
You also need to be mindful of the area when you are drinking a beverage. Since keeping the split corner of mouth sores dry is most important, consider drinking from a straw as often as it's convenient. If you can't, then you should keep a napkin or tissue handy to ensure the area does stay dry.
Also up your intake of Vitamin B. It's been proven that split corner of mouth sores can be caused by a deficiency of this important vitamin. Eating more foods rich in the nutrient is the best approach and in addition to helping ward off this uncomfortable condition, it's healthy for your entire body.
Although it can be painful and embarrassing to live with cracks on the sensitive skin in the corners of the mouth, there are ways you can treat the problem at home.

How to Lose Face Fat and Double Chin?

Do you have fat deposited on your face and chin area? Do you want to get rid of them? You have come to the right article. Read this article and find how you can lose face fat and double chin without surgery.
Chubby cheeks look cute only up to a certain age after which they are given appropriate term ‘face fat’. Not only do these layers of fat hide a person’s cheekbones but also refuse to let him or her have a prominent jaw line. There are some simple exercises, which help a person get that fat off his face. If somebody expects quick results then he should prepare himself mentally as losing fat from the face is not as easy as putting it on.
Women especially have the tendency of having swollen faces. Water retention is major causes behind that puffy face. Lack of proper diet, sleep or exercise is immediately reflected on a person’s face.
Fat on the face can make the skin appear lose and saggy. To give it a toned look, one needs to do cardio exercises regularly. Walking or running on the treadmill, cycling and doing aerobic exercises are some of the best ways to get the appealing display of cheekbones. For the best results two minutes of walking must be alternated with two minutes of running on the treadmill.
A high carbohydrate diet does more harm to a person’s body. Not only does it result in weight gain but also makes a person feel lethargic and drowsy, bringing his activity levels.

How to Lose Double Chin
• Throw your head backwards gently till you feel a strain on neck. Push your lower jaw forward and backward. This must be done whenever you are exercising or whenever you get the time, as many times as you can.
• Check your posture while sitting or standing, as an improper posture can also be the reason behind a double chin.
If done regularly, these exercise which are simple to follow, can help in defining the frame of a person’s face by making his cheekbones and jaw line more prominent.

Cell Phones and Brain Tumors - New Evidence of Wireless Mobile Phone Linked to Brain Cancer

OK, here we go again. Decades ago, there was widespread panic over the possibility that overhead high tension electrical power lines could be a cause of cancer for people living in close proximity or underneath them. When that was disproved, the doomsday crowd went onto blame cell phones as a possible risk of brain cancer due to tiny amounts of radiation emitted when the phone is transferring data. Thus far, after dozens of studies, there has been NO conclusive evidence that cell phones produce a significant enough amount of radiation to create a measurable increase in the risk of cancer. But is there a cause for concern? Just who conducted those tests?
A new joint study from the University of California at Berkeley and multiple Universities in Korea, reexamined 465 article published in major journals along with 23 large scale case studies of over 37,916 patients. The study group was comprised of patients with and without brain tumors. They found that when they look at the group as a whole, there was no association between brain tumors and cell phone use. When they looked closer however, and divided the large group into clinically significant subgroups, there was a clear increase in risk for cancer, of up to 30%. Furthermore, they found that some of the previous studies that had yielded results of "no risk," were in fact funded by cell phone manufacturers.
Other experts including neurosurgeons have long agreed that cell phones can cause brain tumors. One such doctor, Dr. Vini Khurana, even stated that he thought mobile phones could be more dangerous than smoking or asbestos. He pointed out the there are 3 billion cell phone users in the world, which is a whopping 3 times the number of smokers worldwide, and smoking leads to 5 million deaths per year.
Advocate groups still insist however that there is no concrete, established risk. They cite correctly that in journal after peer reviewed journal, there is an overwhelming consensus that wireless cell phones do not pose a public health risk. Their claims are further backed up by the FDA, the FCC, American Cancer Society, the National Cancer Institute and the World Health Organization. Imagine, all of those private and federal watchdog groups agreeing on a single thing!
What's the bottom line? This author still isn't sure. All I know is that there are still people who believe that the lunar landing was a big hoax. There are nurses that work for me, that sadly, still won't get vaccinations for their kids for fear of increased risk of Down syndrome. For me, I'm not giving up my cell phone anytime soon. If the risk really is that significant, then we can also say that "the place we carry the phone on our bodies, may increase the risk of cancer in that particular body area." For instance, I often carry my cell phone in my shirt pocket. Will I have an increased risk for breast cancer? Hmm, I always wondered what a mammogram would feel like...

7 Strategies to Overcoming Anxiety and Panic Attacks

You Can Overcome panic attacks and anxiety!
That is great news to those who suffer day in and day out, year in and year out. I have and I know that you can too.
THE SYMPTOMS
For me it started with heart palpitations. My thoughts immediately steered to fear. Then my throat would become dry so I could not swallow. Then my body would feel weird. Dizziness and blurred vision. By this time I was convinced that I was about to die. I kept waiting for the symptoms to get worse and they did. I use to suffer from panic attacks so badly that I had to go to the hospital by ambulance. I was so embarrassed when the doctor checked me and told me that there was nothing wrong with me. When I had to go grocery shopping I would get a funny feeling in my stomach before I left the house. Once I got inside the grocery store I felt like I had to run out or else I would become overwhelmed. I dreaded the thought that I might have a panic attack in public. I had to talk to myself and prayed up and down each and every aisle of the store. I knew that if I ran out, my family would not have food and I would have to start all over again. The people in the store had no idea the personal torture I was experiencing. People at church had no idea how hard it was to sit in a large crowd.
AWARENESS
When the symptoms started, I had no idea what was happening to me. One day I was watching T. V. and some people were on a show talking about the symptoms and the light went on, "That's me! That's what I have been experiencing". That was the beginning of my healing! Knowledge is power. I thank God that He allowed me to turn to the channel and hear those people talking. I also helped me to know that I was not alone. I suppose that those of you who suffer from the effects of anxiety are glad to hear that you are not alone.
Steps to Overcoming
1) READ
Read as much as possible about anxiety and understand what are some of the causes.
2) PROFESSIONAL HELP
Go to a counselor or therapist to get to the bottom of the anxiety. The physical discomforts are trying to get your attention - Pay attention to a greater dis-ease within. Pray for God to send you to the right person. He will.
3) RELAXATION
Listen to a tape or CD for RELAXATION This was one of the things that helped me tremendously. I needed to reprogram my mind with positive and true statements that were life giving and empowering. CD's and cassette tapes can help you overcome anxiety and panic attacks. Breathing correctly is a part of relaxation.
4) EXERCISE
Physical exercise has tremendous value. It releases chemicals that generate good feelings, called pheromones. It's good to feel good!
5) HEALING IN GOD'S WORD
Meditate on scriptures that enhance your trust in God. One scripture that helps me when I really let it sink in is: Matthew 5:25-34. Am I not more than a bird to God? You better believe it and so are you! Birds don't work or store up food yet God takes care of them. Wow! The next time you see a bird think about that!
6) MAP YOUR JOURNEY
Create a time line by drawing on a sheet of paper when your first signs of discomfort started. Write down what major events happened at that same time. Note the year/date. Go back as far as you can. This process helps you to take a bird's-eye view of your life. When I did this exercise, I found that the first time I experienced a full panic attack was in 1984 and I had just made a major move from someone very dear to me. I also discovered that there agoraphobia before any panic attack ever appeared. Doing this will help you understand what's been going on and what triggers extreme anxiety. (You may need to use than one piece of paper).
7) God's Power to Heal
Remember, God still heals. We must let go of all the disappointments of the past, and betrayals. God is not like any human being with whom we have had a relationship. God faithful and just. Jesus walked this earth so you can talk to Him about yours trials. Pray as the early disciples did, "Lord, increase my faith". FAITH is the opposite of anxiety. Faith not only pleases God but keeps us trusting in God's fatherly care. I am a witness!! Praise God!
If just one person is helped by this article, I will have accomplished what God set me out to do help someone along our earthly journey.
Pray for me. I will pray for you.

Blurred Vision and Glaucoma

Blurred vision is a lack of sharpness as a result the person is enable to see fine details or small objects. Blurred vision can occur when a person who wears corrective lens is without them. Blurred vision can also be a sign of various eye diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, diabetes, retinal detachment, brain tumor, or optic nerve damage.
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases characterized by damage to the optic nerve. (optic nerve carries images from retina, which is the specialized light sensing tissue, to the brain so we can see) usually due to high intraocular pressure. If untreated, it can lead to optic nerve damage resulting in progressive, permanent vision loss. It is a leading cause of preventable blindness among people, especially in America and Africa. The risk of glaucoma increases dramatically with age. But it can strike any age group, even newborn infants and fetuses.
Glaucoma can be classified in two categories: Chronic Open angle Glaucoma and Narrow angle closure glaucoma.
Chronic Open angle Glaucoma: It is the most common form of Glaucoma. The "open "drainage angle of the eye can become blocked leading to gradual increase in eye pressure. This increase results in optic nerve damage.
Narrow angle Closure Glaucoma: It is caused when contact between the iris and trabecular meshwork, which in turn obstructs outflow of aqueous humor from the eye, as a result the drainage angle of the eye narrows and becomes completely blocked. When the drainage angle of the eye suddenly becomes completely blocked pressure builds up naturally and this is called acute angle closure glaucoma. The symptoms include severe eye pain, blurred vision, headache, nausea and vomiting.
The treatment of glaucoma depends upon the nature and severity of each case. In general glaucoma cannot be cured, but it can be controlled. Eye drops, pills, laser procedures and surgical operations are used to prevent or slow down further damage.

Hot Foot Bath – Good for Health

Hot foot bath gives relaxation to the entire body if you are tired and also helpful in eliminating toxins from the body. It is an effective means of reducing congestion of blood or water in the upper parts of the body.
When you have to take a foot bath, drink a glass of warm water, sit on a chair and lower you feet in a bucket full of hot water. The level of the water should, ideally, come up to the knees. The temperature of the water should not be too much above the body temperature. As the water gets cold, go on adding more hot water. Take care to see that the hot water added later does not scald the feet.
Cover yourself with a blanket. Wrap it around your body; even if the bucket is covered, it will be all right. The head should be covered with a towel wetted with cold water. As the coldness of the towel evaporated, dip it in cold water, wring it lightly and again cover your head with it.
In 15 to 20 minutes you will start perspiring. When a fair amount of perspiration has been formed, the bath can be terminated. Wash your feet with cold water afterwards and wipe them with a towel. Wipe your body with a wet towel and dress yourself. An ordinary bath can be taken after the hot foot bath.
The blood pressure decreases during the course of the bath. A feeling of giddiness therefore may ensue. This feeling will pass away on resting for a few minutes. But as a precautionary measure, very weak persons, pregnant women and patients with abnormally high or low blood pressure, should avoid taking hot foot baths.

Drink Beetroot Juice to Boost Iron Deficiency Anemia

What is Iron-Deficiency Anemia?
It is a condition where the number of red blood cells in the blood is low, thus causing a low blood count. It occurs because your red blood cells do not contain enough hemoglobin, a iron-rich protein that causes blood to be red in color.
What Causes Anemia?
There are several causes of anemia, which include:
  • Iron deficiency
  • Kidney disease
  • Pregnancy
  • Poor nutrition
  • Deficiency of vitamin B12 known as pernicious anemia
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Thalassemia
  • Alcohol
  • Bone marrow related anemia
  • Aplastic anemia
  • Hemolytic anemia
  • Active bleeding, eg. heavy bleeding during menstration.
Symptoms of Anemia
Low red blood cell count means that there is little oxygen going to the tissues in the body, and it is this lack of oxygen that causes anemia. The symptoms and include:
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness
  • Looking pale
  • Palpitations
  • Decreased energy
  • Shortness of breath
Treating Anemia With Beet Juice
Beetroot juice is possibly the best natural remedy for anemia. It contains excellent cleansing properties with a high iron content that restores red blood cells whilst supplying oxygen and increasing the blood count.
As a valuable source of iron and beets are an excellent natural source to reverse anemia.
It is of great benefit to women during their menstrual cycle and those going through the menopause.
It is recommended that you drink one pint daily of blended beet juice. The base blend should be with carrot juice but you can add apples, pineapple, coconut flesh, spinach or cucumber depending on what other ailments you want to cure.
Beet Juice Recipes
Beetroot should only be used in its raw state. That is because the powerful betalain it contains is reduced during cooking, and oxalic acid crystals are released forming calcium stones when heated.

ADHD Herbal Remedies - Spirulina

Can food supplements and herbs be used as natural remedies for ADHD? Parents who are aware of the side effects of medication are constantly on the lookout for the best natural treatments for their children. Unfortunately, this question cannot be answered by a simple "yes" or "no." Every child is biochemically unique, which means that he or she will have a different response to different treatments. One child might experience reduced symptoms after taking one herbal remedy while the next child may show no improvement at all.
Lately, a lot of experts recommend using spirulina as an ADHD natural remedy because of its wide spectrum of benefits. Spirulina is a blue-green algae with an extensive nutritional profile. In fact, some experts say that spirulina alone offers more nutritional benefits than most foods, and can replace expensive multivitamin formulas. If you look at spirulina's nutritional offerings and compare them to the nutrition deficits suffered by children with ADHD, you'll see why this algae has so much potential to be a natural treatment for ADHD.
Spirulina is rich in ten non-essential amino acids, eight essential amino acids, and even essential fatty acids needed by the brain. It has a rare essential fatty acid called GLA, which can only be found in human milk and evening primrose. Pound for pound, spirulina provides 200 times more protein than beef and 20 times more protein than soybeans. And if you're searching for a multivitamin formula that can treat the vitamin and mineral deficiencies found in children with ADHD, spirulina might answer your child's nutritional needs. Spirulina contains a host of minerals like iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and vitamins B6 and B12. There's no need to give your child antioxidants, either, because spirulina contains vitamins E and C, two natural antioxidants that protect vitamins and minerals from free radical damage.
Aside from being a potent source of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, spirulina has natural detoxification properties. In many cases, high levels of lead, mercury, and other neurotoxins are responsible for the ADHD symptoms in children. There is some evidence that spirulina can increase the efficiency of detoxification and reduce the amount of toxins on kidneys.
Although there are no studies that investigate spirulina's effects in treating ADHD, its nutritional content shows that it could be an important source of nutrients needed to manage the disorder. For instance, a number of studies show that zinc supplements can correct ADHD symptoms triggered by a zinc deficiency. One clinical trial observed that spirulina is more effective than zinc sulfate supplements in boosting zinc levels.
Since spirulina is fairly new to consumers of natural medicine, experts have yet to determine the recommended dosage of spirulina for children. However, you can include it in your child's diet by adding spirulina flakes to soups, sauces, and salads. Make sure you consult a qualified holistic health care practitioner before you use spirulina or any natural treatments for ADHD.

How to Make an Onion Poultice For Congestion and Cold and Flu Symptoms

Did you know that onion poultices have always been used to relieve chest congestion? Onions have a long history for their healing benefits. A poultice is simply the mashed herb secured in some fabric and placed over the area of congestion on the body. The skin absorbs the medicinal properties quickly and more easily than through digestion.
Onion poultices are time tested herbal remedies and treatments for chest congestion and other symptoms of colds and flu. A poultice is simple and easy to make. The onion poultice is a powerful home remedy you can use for your whole family. And, onions are readily available and affordable!
How to Make an Onion Poultice:
Chop an onion into small bits. Let it set for a few minutes to draw out the powerful medicinal properties. The onion can be used raw or it can be sautéed gently. Put the chopped onion in the center of a square of fabric. You can use flannel, an old t-shirt or a pillowcase. Fold the fabric over and roll or fold the edges to make a 'hem'. Secure the edges with safety pins to keep the onion bits from falling out.
Place the poultice on the patient's chest or soles of the feet. The sole of the foot quickly absorbs herbal treatments, in fact, some people rub ointments like Vick's on the feet when they are sick. You can also place the poultice on sore joints and behind the ear for an ear infection. Check your patient every 15-30 minutes to make sure that there's not any skin irritation.

Treat Snoring With Natural Remedies

One reason people snore is that they are congested. Allergies, colds, smoking, anything that irritates or inflames the breathing passages can contribute to snoring. One natural remedy that can combat snoring is honey. Honey is good for reducing inflammation and congestion in the body. Add honey to your favorite tea, or mix it with lemon juice and sip it throughout the day to alleviate the nasal congestion that can cause snoring. The mixture of lemon juice and honey contain antibacterial properties to help clear out congestion.
A cayenne pepper gargle is also useful in clearing out congestion. Take a teaspoon of cayenne pepper and place it in a glass of water. If you gargle with this mixture you should feel heat in your throat. The pepper helps clear out the congestion by drawing blood to the throat.
Nasal congestion can also be alleviated by using a humidifier or increasing the humidity in the air. A humidifier can be purchased for as little as $20 and there are various types which can add either cool or warm moisture to the air. Nasal passages can be inflammed when the air is too dry. The added moisture in the air helps them to shrink, thus giving relief to the sufferer. You can also create your own humidifier by using a pot and a towel. Put water in a pot and let it boil. When it comes to a boil, turn off fire, place your face over the pot and inhale the steam. Placing a towel over your head traps the steam and gives you more steam to breathe in. This will help relieve your congested sinuses and you don't have to spend any money.
Essential oils can also be used to help with congestion. Essential oils come in a lot of different varieties, but basil, eucalyptus and peppermint are commonly suggested to help clear out those clogged sinuses. Applying basil oil to the chest 2 to 3 times a day will give relief of sinus congestion. Alternately, one can just inhale the aroma without placing it on the body and obtain the same results. Eucalyptus oil can be rubbed on chest and under nose to help clear sinuses. It can also be added to hot water and inhaled using the homemade humidifier. Peppermint oil can also be used by placing a few drops under the nose or adding a few drops to a humidifier.
Lemon Balm, basil and peppermint are herbs that can be used to combat congestion. Lemon Balm leaves can be placed in a glass of warm water and used as a gargle. This herb has antibacterial and antiviral properties. Drinking the juice from the boiled leaves gives even better results. Basil leaves can be boiled in water and this tonic can be consumed several times a day. Basil has antiseptic properties. Lastly, peppermint leaves have anti-inflammatory properties and can be boiled in water, as with the others, and consumed as a tea.
Apple Cider Vinegar is touted as a cure for many things and can also help with nasal congestion. Two teaspoons diluted in 8 ounces of water can give immediate relief of sinus problems. You can also drink it straight, but Apple Cider Vinegar has a very strong flavor and has been known to ruin teeth enamel if taken straight over a long period of time.
If your snoring is related to sinus congestion, try some of these remedies. They are guaranteed to give you relief. Some will help you feel relief immediately, some may clear out congestion immediately, while others may take longer for you to see the desired results.

Help For Clogged & Congested Skin

Blocked pores, dull skin, uneven skin, blackheads and whiteheads...all signs of congested skin and often affecting not just teenagers, but adults too. Also knows as open comedomes, blackheads are literally tiny plugs in the opening of a follicle or pore on the skin. The pore plug is a combination of oils, sebum and dead skin cells. Open to the skin's surface, the plug becomes darkened as it is exposed to oxygen. Whiteheads are closed at the skin's surface, blocked by cellular debris but not exposed to oxygen so remain light in colour.
Blackheads, whiteheads and blocked pores are usually caused by a combination of factors. Excess skin oil, sebum and toxins that are expelled through the skin are often an underlying issue. In addition dead skin cells, pollution, occlusive make up and dirt also play a role by filling up pores already opened by sebum and oil production. Each factor will contribute to congestion in a different but significant way:
Skin Oil & Sebum: excess oil and sebum production by the skin will contribute to clogging pores and encourage the growth of skin bacteria. When combined with external factors such as dirt, blackheads easily form.
Toxic Congestion: blood and lymph supply the skin with nutrition. However, if the toxins that are produced in our bodies everyday are not eliminated properly, they are eliminated via the skin and can contribute to congestion as well as other issues such as acne and skin irritation.
Dead Skin Cells: Each 3 or 4 weeks the skin replenishes the skin cells. This natural process creates a layer of dead skin cells over the surface of the skin. If not removed, the dead skin cells create dull looking skin. The other thing that may happen is that the dead cells will plug the pores on your face and create congestion and blackheads. When combined with excessive sebum production, this can lead to the formation of white-heads and black heads.
Skin Care & Make Up: The key culprits in skin congestion are products that contain petrochemical based oils as they have an occulusive effect, stopping the skin from breathing and blocking pores. Talc, which is common in make up and finishing powder, also has this effect. Waxes and butters may also be an issue with skin prone to congestion. Make up is usually worn on a daily basis so it is essential to choose a make up that suits your skin type and doesn't contribute to further congestion.
Pollution & Dirt: Building up on the surface of skin over the day, pollution is a factor in the formation of blackheads and blocked pores. The more polluted the area in which you live, the more skin pollution you are likely to experience. Effective skin cleansing is vital to clean the skin of daily dirt and grime...and a splash of water at the end of the day just doesn't cut it. Dirt that is found on our face and other parts of the body can be a breeding ground for bacteria and combined with oily skin can make things even worse. Where does the dirt come from? Dirty hands are a key culprit and those already conscious of their skin tend to pick and rub their skin more than others, just making the problem worse.
Treatment of of Blackheads
So, how to get rid of blackheads and congested skin? Well squeezing them out is not the answer. This technique will just lead to further skin irritation and possibly damage and scarring to the surrounding tissue. Rather than removing blackheads by squeezing, the best way to get rid of them is by attacking the source of the problem.
1. A good cleansing routine: Cleansing the skin of daily dirt, grime and pollution is essential. A good cleansing routine is a very effective way to remove blackheads, as it will help wash away excess oil and dead skin particles. Use a gentle cleanser as harsh and overly-drying cleansers will only make the problem worse by causing an increase in sebum production. If your skin feels squeaky clean, dry and tight after washing, you are doing more harm than good and need to use a more gentle cleanser. Avoid products with Sodium laurel sulphate as this ingredient tends to disrupt the acid mantle again causing increased sebum production.
2. Regular gentle exfoliation: one way to minimise congestion and clogged pores is to ensure the top layer skin remains clear by regularly removing the dead skin cells. There are a number of very effective products you can use to remove dead skin cells.
Regular use of facial exfoliants or scrubs will help clear dead skin cells that block pores. Removing the top layer of dead cells will also allow your moisturiser or serum work more effectively as it comes into contact with live skin cells rather than dead ones.
There are a couple of things to look for in a good exfoliant. The most obvious, although it is surprising how many people ignore this, is that a body scrub is too harsh to be used as a facial scrub. Look for a very fine, soft exfoliant as your facial skin is soft and delicate. A harsh scrub may actually scour the surface of your skin much like a scrubbing brush and this can actually damage skin cells. If your skin is excessively red or inflamed after use they are far too strong. Gentle exfoliants will slough off cells without a harsh scrubbing effect and are suitable to be used 2-3 times a week.
3. Fruit Enzyme Peels: enzyme peels are another way of clearing dead skin cells. They work as a result of their ability to break the bonds between dead skin cells that form at the surface of the skin. Skin normally has a dead layer of cells at its surface (the corneocyte layer), and fruit enzymes can speed up the normal process of skin cell regeneration and sloughing. This results in increased flexibility of the skin as well as decreased formation of large dry skin flakes at the surface of the skin.
Pumpkin, pineapple and pawpaw provide natural, gentle enzyme proteases that loosen the glue between dead skin cells, slough away impurities, dead skin cells and unplug the pores while delivering nutrition to the skin. This leaves the skin cleansed and silky smooth and reduces the likelihood of blackheads. Fruit enzyme 'peels' only need to be used once or twice a week for good effect.
4. Light Moisturisers: moisturisers that use waxes, butters and petrochemical oils will be more likely to contribute to congestion in skin that is prone to blackheads. Please note that waxes and butters are perfectly suitable and definitely beneficial for those with dry or dehydrated skin but for those with congested skin, choose lotions rather than rich creams. If you have combination skin and suffer from congestion as well as dry skin, use oil based serums or hyaluronic acid to increase moisture content in the skin without contributing to further blockage.
5. Salicylic acid and glycolic acid in high concentrations are common recommendations for skin congestion and while they might be effective in the short term they can cause significant problems and can be counter-productive to softening and dissolving blackheads as they can dehydrate dry, normal and combination skin. In addition, those with a history of use of high concentration glycolic acid can suffer redness and irritation at a later date when exposed to even mildly acidic ingredients such as ascorbic acid. If you choose to use such products, firstly use them in consultation with a skin specialist, use low concentrations, use them short term only and watch for signs of skin dehydration.
6. Make Up: Mineral make up is an ideal alternative for those with congested skin. Rather than sinking into or filling pores, the particles of pigment sit on the surface of the skin allowing the skin to breathe properly. This helps minimise congestion and eventually, allows the pores to shrink.
7. Dietary & Lifestyle tips: Plenty of water will help flush toxins out of your system and regular and regular exercise will keep your lymphatic system flowing. Together both these factors will help reduce the level of toxins being eliminated via the skin.
Research conducted at RMIT University, Melbourne, has shown that a low glycemic index (GI), moderate protein diet improved symptoms of acne including the number of facial lesions. The diet consisted of 25% of energy from protein and 45% of energy from low GI carbohydrates such as fruit and vegetables, grains and pulses. While this research was conducted on patients with acne, there are strong correlations between high GI diets and skin congestion as well. Generally a high GI diet is associated with a greater degree of systemic body toxicity and inflammation and those prone to skin conditions are likely to eliminate toxins through the skin more readily.
A diet high in vegetables, fruit, good fats, lean protein, nuts & seeds is ideal for the skin as it contains lots of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that support skin health.
Following the steps above will not only help you minimise congestion but will also encourage clear, vibrant skin in general.

Natural Treatment for Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction

The Sphincter of Oddi is a central gate to many liver, gallbladder and pancreas problems. Many scientists believe that the Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction (SOD) is a culprit of the pancreas diseases and it is the common source of chronic pain after gallbladder removal.
Around the common bile duct, pancreatic duct and the duodenum wall there is a muscle valve called the Sphincter of Oddi. The Sphincter of Oddi, named after Ruggero Oddi, an Italian anatomist who discovered this structure in 1887. The Sphincter of Oddi controls moving of the bile from the liver, and gallbladder and pancreatic juice from the pancreas into the duodenum.
Normally, when semi digestive food moves from the stomach into the duodenum sphincter of Oddi opens. Large amount of the gallbladder bile and alkaline pancreatic juice is released to digest this food. When no food in the duodenum, sphincter of Oddi is closed so the bile from the liver is collected in the gallbladder.
Regulation of this complicated work is under control of nervous system and special blood messengers - digestive hormones. Stress, fasting, "harsh" liver cleansing, gallbladder removal, bad eating habits, alcohol, some medications, and recreation drugs badly influence in proper regulation and work of the sphincter of Oddi.
Spasm or blockage of this muscle valve may cause pancreatic juice goes backward, thereby increasing the pressure inside the pancreatic duct. Digestive enzymes shut inside the pancreas, begin to digest their own pancreas, initiate inflammation, pain, and finally the death of pancreatic tissue. Thus, chronic pancreatitis is developed.
Tumor, gallbladder stone, or scaring can make an anatomical blockage of the sphincter of Oddi. It happens relatively rare. However, more often can be functional, temporal spasms of the sphincter of Oddi without any abnormality in the tests. The common reason for sphincter to be spasmodic is irritation of it by the "aggressive" bile and pancreatic juice.
What could make bile and pancreatic juice "aggressive", corroded, and irritated? Let's explain that.
The liver's most important functions are producing and releasing bile and removing the toxins from our body by dividing them into water-soluble and fat-soluble wastes.
Water-soluble wastes move into the blood and the kidneys eliminate them from the body.
Bile serves to eliminate a variety of the toxic, fat-soluble wastes substances from the body. These substances include cholesterol, bile pigments, toxic chemicals, drugs, heavy metals, etc.
Hepatitis, fatty liver, Candida-yeast overgrowth, parasites, congestion, inflammation, infection of the gallbladder, high body's acidity, poor eating habits, alcohol can cause the bile to be thick and acidic, therefore make it difficult for it to move through the ducts.
When the bile and pancreatic juice are getting acidic, they also become very "aggressive", irritated, and corroded for the ducts, sphincter of Oddi, and small intestine causing jerky movement; "wrong way traffic" - bile/pancreatic juice refluxes in the stomach, ulcers and even cancers.
No surprise, it causes loss of appetite, nausea, gas, bloating, heartburn, attacks of pain, especially after "bad" foods or bad food combination. Pain can be last for 30 minutes to several hours and even bring person to ER.
Therefore, the goal of treatment has to be focus on root of the problems such as biochemical, acidic changes in the bile and pancreatic juice. In the normal situation, the bile and pancreatic juice are very alkaline fluids. However, if whole body is getting acidic, the bile and pancreatic juice also became acidic and "aggressive".
Checking saliva and urine pH with litmus paper at home may show acidic condition of the body especially if saliva and urine pH repeatedly less than 6.6.
What can naturally normalize the alkaline condition of the bile and pancreatic juice?
Only minerals and bicarbonate from food and water can naturally neutralize the whole body acidity.
For this purposes, European doctors have used healing mineral water for a long time. Treatment with healing mineral water (balneology) is a part of education in some European medical schools. There are many healing mineral spas all over the Europe.
Most famous and researched mineral water is water from hot spring in the small Czech town Karlovy Vary. Karlovy Vary healing mineral water attracted millions visitors all over the globe. It was distributed by barrels and bottles many years ego. Demand of this water was so high hence, the mineral salt had manufactured there by vaporizing the spring water in 1764. It was a good option for people, which cannot visit Karlovy Vary or wanted ongoing the healing course at home.
Dissolving this salt in the water produces mineral water with the same healing value.
Karlovy Vary healing mineral water has been object for serious medical study for hundreds of the years. First medical book about that water have a laxative effect was dated by 1522. Later, a large number of medical papers confirmed the healing action of this water in many digestive disorders.
European doctors showed that drinking mineral water makes bile and pancreatic juice less acidic, liquid, and less "aggressive". It naturally improves digestion, alleviates the pains and cramps, and lessens gas and heartburn.
This water may dissolve the gallbladder stones and expel them; it also is very beneficial for persons with sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, chronic pancreatitis, and hepatitis.
What else can make the bile and pancreatic juice less irritated for the sphincter of Oddi?
Herbal medicine is the oldest way to eliminate digestive problems. Chinese medicine, Hindu system - Ayurveda, European herbology offer many healing herbs for digestive disorders. Some of them increase amount of the bile, promote its easy elimination, decrease spasms and pain. The simple example is peppermint tea. Knowledgeable medical practitioner can customize the herbal remedies for any digestive problems.
No question, food is the important, safe and cheep medicine for sphincter of Oddi dysfunction.
Food needs to be alkaline and full of the natural digestive enzymes. Some vegetable blends or juices are good for these purposes. Warm vegetable soups are also helpful for many digestive problems. Some persons with sphincter of Oddi dysfunction suffer from Candida-yeast overgrowth, food sensitivity, and allergy. Appropriate diet changes are necessary to correct these conditions.
Stress can lead to spasm of the sphincter of Oddi as well. Worsening sphincter of Oddi dysfunction after mental or physical stress can be seen very often. Consulting, relaxation, meditation, medical hypnosis, listening the custom hypnoses CD at home, acupuncture, massage are some natural ways to alleviate the stress.
It would be wise to stop drinking alcohol temporary for a few months to improve condition because the alcohol interrupts the normal function of this muscle valve. Upper abdominal pain after alcohol consumption is typical for sphincter of Oddi dysfunction.
Unfortunately, there is not simple and safe test for diagnose early stage of the SOD now. Therefore, any kind of pain in the upper stomach area after heavy meals can be the alarm bell of the sphincter of Oddi dysfunction.
By author's opinion, strategic position of the sphincter of Oddi involves it in many digestive diseases and disorders. On the other hand, sphincter of Oddi dysfunction by itself leads to many digestive symptoms.
Natural treatment of the early stage can avoid serious problem in the future and improve the quality of life.

In two simple steps, all you need to do to affordably improve your acne scarring is:
1. Gently remove the damaged layers of the skin and
2. Nurture your skin with collagen and moisture building foods so that your skin can more rapidly repair itself.
Acne Scar Remedy 1: Lemons
If your acne scars dark, you can use lemon juice to lighten them. Cleanse your face with lemon juice. Dab one teaspoon of lemon juice into a cotton ball and smooth it over the acne marks. Leave for ten minutes, then rinse. Use caution with lemon juice because it can make your skin photosensitive. So be certain to use a sunscreen on any area you treat with lemon juice prior to going out into the sun.
Acne Scar Remedy 2: Soda
Exfoliate your skin with baking soda. Often times a version of baking soda is used in cosmetic microdermabrasion treatments. You can give yourself a mini microdermabrasion treatment by mixing one teaspoon of baking soda with the two teaspoons of filtered water. Then gently rub the mixture on your acne scar for sixty seconds then rinse it off.
Acne Scar Remedy 3: Olives

Itchy Scalp Hair Loss? Here's Why

Itchy scalp and hair loss can be very frustrating and worrying, and there can be a number of factors which cause or aggravate the hair loss. The hair loss caused by itchy scalp problems is not always permanent, and will often grow back once the main itchy scalp problem is sorted out.
In saying this though, it is vital that you take swift action to properly diagnose the problem and search for suitable remedies and treatments in order to avoid long term scarring from the itchy scalp irritation, and thus enable your hair to begin growing back.
Here I'd like to tell you about a few common reasons for itchy scalp hair loss and what you can do to alleviate the problem.
Folliculitis - strong ingredients in shampoos can damage hair follicles and lead to infections such as folliculitis.
Symptoms are normally small, white-headed pimples around one or more hair follicles. Deep folliculitis will often result in larger painful red boils.
If left untreated the folliculitis can significantly injure the hair follicle resulting in localised areas of scarring and bald patches where there are no visible follicles; this is known as "cicatricial alopecia".
Antibiotics are often used to treat folliculitis, but as with all antibiotics they can lead to a resistance to the antibiotic used. Natural remedies containing Tea Tree Oil or Lavender Oil can be extremely effective in treating the itchy scalp hair loss of folliculitis, particularly in the early stages, and can help to stimulate hair growth.
Ringworm of the scalp (tinea capitis) - a superficial fungal infection of the scalp. It is caused by mold-like fungi called dermatophytes, and the symptoms include red, itchy patches on the scalp, hair loss and, if left untreated, can also lead to cicatricial alopecia.
The skin might peel or scale and be red and itchy, with swollen blisters or a rash (that can spread) that appears as black dots.
The rash, being highly contagious, is normally treated with over the counter products containing miconazole, clotrimazole, or similar ingredients. Sometimes prescription medications are needed to clear it up.
There are many natural products that can be used to aid the healing process and act as natural antibiotics, but it must be stressed that ringworm is an aggressive fungus requiring close monitoring and appropriate treatment.
Psoriasis - said to affect some 2.5% of the US population (about 7 or 8 million people) psoriasis is a fairly common, non-contagious skin disease in which the skin cells replace themselves too quickly and cause red lesions covered with scale to appear.
Scalp psoriasis is said to affect at least half of all psoriasis sufferers and is characterized by white scales on patches of very red skin, often accompanied by severe itching and possibly temporary baldness on the affected areas.
Using a shampoo containing zinc pyrithione (in its natural form) can be extremely effective at combating psoriasis and itchy scalp hair loss in general, as it has very strong anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
Home remedies using birch or avocado oil are also extremely effective in soothing and healing psoriasis.
Seborrhoeic dermatitis - similar in appearance to eczema (Atopic Dermatitis), this is an inflammatory reaction to the proliferation of a yeast called Malassezia (or Pityrosporum Ovale). It produces toxic substances that irritate the skin. This yeast is always present on the scalp in small numbers and feeds on the natural oils produced there.
Imbalances in the levels of oils (sebum) on the scalp, (often due to harsh shampoos, conditioners and hair dyes) can cause the yeast to multiply and grow, resulting in dry redness, flaking, itchy scalp and sometimes cause temporary hair loss. The flakes of skin are normally characterized by a yellowish colour and oily texture.
Since the dermatitis is generally caused by the use of harsh shampoos and the stripping and drying out of the scalp, it is advisable to use a shampoo containing only natural ingredients like Tea Tree Oil which will not only help to fight the infection but will control the yeast and condition the skin, as well as maintain the natural pH balance of the scalp. Adding Rosemary Oil to the shampoo can work wonders, in addition to using simple home remedies containing Manuka or Tea Tree Oil, as well as Lavender to stimulate hair growth.
