Simple Tips For Weight Loss After Pregnancy

I've seen many cases where lots of women are worried and totally frustrated to see the changes in their body when it comes to significant weight gain due to pregnancy. So, what is a women to do if you've just given birth and still have 20 or more pounds to lose to get back to your pre-baby body? In this article I would like to share simple tips to lose weight after pregnancy.
1) Regain Your Energy
You probably don't even realize that your body has just been through a very traumatic experience with all the debilitating tension that occurs during the delivery process. Before attempting to get back into a regular exercise regime, give your body some time to rest and restore your lost energy since the giving birth. Before you start any weight loss program after pregnancy, make sure that your body feels better and that simple tasks such as walking or lifting slightly heavier objects do not cause you any physical pain.
2) "Break Up" with Your Bad Eating Habits
Usually unconsciously, a lot of women think they can eat whatever they want during their pregnancy and often feel it is the fetus that is directing their cravings and causing them to want certain foods. There is definitely some truth to this, but once your baby is born, you need to remind yourself that you are no longer "eating for two". It can start with a few mistakes here and there, but the truth is continuing to eat unhealthy foods will cause you to continue gaining weight instead of losing it. A perfect example is late night junk food and after dinner dessert. These may have been unavoidable cravings while you were pregnant, but you need to eliminate them after baby if you want to lose weight.
3) Use Logic
Ask yourself, is this weight loss program reasonable and realistic for my lifestyle? If a program offers extreme promises such as LOSE 30lbs in 5 DAYS, you should be cautious. The more unrealistic it seems, the more unrealistic it really is and I would stay away from any diet plan just trying to sell to you on your frustration. Also I would recommend avoiding dietary or slimming supplements, especially fat burning pills, medications or any herbal supplements. These can be dangerous to your health when you don't have all the facts and if you are still breastfeeding you are also putting your baby's health and life at risk.
4) Start Eating Weight Loss Foods
There are tons of tips, resources and free weight loss plans for postpartum women which you can be easily found online nowadays. You may use the Internet to do some research on weight loss foods after pregnancy for both women who are breast-feeding or not.. I personally suggest you look for a weight loss diet plan for women that works with your lifestyle, this way you will be more likely to stick with it. Most weight loss programs have all the information you need to shed extra weight and explain the essential nutrients you require to reach your weight loss goal as quickly as possible, but if you spend money on a program and never follow it, there really is no weight loss program that will work for you.
5. Do SOMETHING Physical Everyday
This is probably the biggest mistake I see among my friends and family when they complain to me about postpartum weight loss. It's exhausting caring for a new born day and night and the thought of going for a jog or working out at a gym probably makes you want face plant on the floor. But, the only way to get over this feeling is to start doing SOMETHING. Start with light exercises, such as walking with the stroller or a yoga class will not only get your body back in motion, but it will also help to reduce postpartum depression. The ideal time to start light exercises is about six weeks after giving birth and as you stick with it you can move up to higher impact routines such as strength training and cardiovascular activities which will help to tighten and tone those parts that got "loose" after giving birth.
6. Be Patient
Last but not least, you need to be patience with yourself. It took 9 months for your baby to grow and develop and cause that extra weight on your belly and bottom. You can't expect your body to bounce back in just a few short weeks, even if you are following a postpartum weight loss diet plan for women. Getting back into shape will take eating the right foods, consistent physical activity and most importantly...time. A good support system always helps so ask for it! Your family members, friends and especially your husband want you to succeed so lean on them when you're having a tough day and feel you like hanging from the ceiling fan!
Gook Luck!

How to Lighten Your Skin With Vitamin C and Other Skin Whitening Home Remedies

How to Lighten Your Skin With Vitamin C and Other Skin Whitening Home Remedies
Do you wish you could do a little skin whitening? Are you unhappy with your uneven or blotchy skin tone? I can tell you that you are not alone. For years I suffered the embarrassment of dark spots, and uneven skin color until I discovered skin whitening home remedies that actually work. As a child I spent untold hours in the blazing sun on the beaches of south Florida.
It's no wonder I need a skin whitening solution. Little did I know that the beautiful bronze tan I enjoyed in my youth, would have such undesirable effects on my skin as I aged. For years I refused to even wear a bathing suit, until by accident I discovered a natural solution that has had such a profound rejuvenating effect on my skin that I am once again combing the beaches at will (although with an SPF 15 sunblock on for protection).
Your skin issues may not be caused by the sun as mine were but all skin discoloration has a few things in common. Skin pigmentation is caused by a substance in our skin known as Melanin. The amount of Melanin produced by the skin determines the skin's darkness.
Darker skinned people produce more Melanin than lighter skinned people. The majority of skin discoloration problems are caused either by sun exposure or hormones. Some other causes may include damage by rashes or wounds. Sun discoloration typically occurs on areas of the body that get the most sun exposure such as the face, back of the hands, forearms and chest. They may take the form of brown spots, blotches or freckles. These spots are often referred to as Liver spots but in fact are caused by sun exposure.
Traditional topical skin whitening treatments have included such harsh chemicals as hydroquinone (shown to cause leukemia in lab animals) and treatments containing Mercury. Both of which, while being somewhat effective can have severe side effects. Other more common treatments include the Alpha Hydroxy acids, Kojic acid & Azaelic acid. These harsh acids are used to remove abnormal layers of the skin and inhibit melatonin production.
While these substances can be somewhat effective in removing unwanted pigmentation they must be applied by professionals to avoid potential severe side effects. Lazer treatments & Cryosurgery are two of the more recent & expensive skin whitening treatments available. These methods use controlled destruction of skin cells but results are difficult to control and may not work consistently on different skin tones.
Speaking from experience I can tell you that I have tried many of these myself, with little lasting relief. It was not until I tried the topical use of vitamin C in the form of L-ascorbic acid and ascorbyl glucosamine that I achieved the results I was after, I was elated!By

A Guide to Herbal Sleep Aids

Difficulty sleeping can affect many aspects of life. People who don't get the recommended amount of sleep for their age groups can have a myriad of negative affects.
Daytime crankiness, difficulty concentrating, frequent illness, depression, and accidents are all common problems associated with poor sleep habits.
For some people, getting more sleep is not as easy as going to bed earlier. If you suffer from insomnia, you know how wearisome it can be to lie in bed, unable to sleep.
Doctors can prescribe medication to help, but these medications have undesirable side effects. Stomach problems, dizziness, daytime drowsiness, difficulty awakening, accidents, and poor coordination are all common.
Not only do prescription sleep medications have negative side effects, they also don't cause healthy sleep. They cause sedation or unconsiousness--not the restful, healing sleep you need.
But you don't have to choose between sleep deprivation and unwanted medication--nature has provided us with many natural remedies for sleeplessness.
Whether you want a little help falling asleep occasionally or a long-term supplement that will help restore your body's natural sleep rhythms, you should be able to find an herbal sleep aid that will work for you.
Chamomile is one of nature's oldest and gentlest herbal sleep aids. It is most often drunk as a tea, which has a mild and pleasant taste. In addition to promoting calm and restfulness, chamomile is also used in cases of stomach irritation.
The benefits of chamomile works when taken occasionally, and is mild enough that it can be used daily for extended periods of time. It doesn't cause dependency, and has no side effects. It may, though, be an allergen for people who are allergic to daisies.
Experts are not sure how chamomile works to induce sleep. US Pharmacist reports that apigenin, a flavonoid in chamomile, may help to promote sleep, but that other components are probably also involved.
Valerian is a root that has long been used as an herbal sleep aid. It has a characteristic smell, like old socks, which comes from isovaleric acid. Valerian can be used to help occasional sleeplessness, but is also particularly helpful taken long-term.
Many studies have shown valerian root to be an extremely safe and effective way to promote sleep. Patients who take valerian report that they feel less anxious and nervous, and have better rest at night.
Clearly, there are many benefits of valerian, and it causes none of the negative effects on concentration and alertness that prescription medications, thereby making it an excellent choice for people who suffer from chronic insomnia. Very high doses may cause certain side effects such as nausea, headaches, and dizziness.
Melatonin is a hormone that the body produces at night. It is sometimes called the "sleep hormone" because it is so important to healthy sleep. People who are blind, who suffer from jet lag, or who live in places with extended sunlight hours may have trouble sleeping because their bodies do not produce enough melatonin.
Patients looking for a short-term sleep solution may be helped by taking melatonin supplements, as will persons whose natural wake/sleep cycles have been disturbed. Melatonin is also helpful to people who are trying to wean themselves off of sleep medications.

SAMe (S-adenosyl-methionine) is an amino acid derivative, and is found normally in the body. It is typically used as an antidepressant, but is also commonly used to treat chronic fatigue syndrome or as an herbal sleep aid. Its actions in the body help to promote healthy sleep cycles, especially when taken daily for several weeks.
Mario Kyriazis, M.D, author of The Anti-Aging Plan (Element, 2000) explains that SAMe helps to promote sleep by increasing serotonin, a nerotransmitter important to sleep and mood. SAMe also works with the hormone melatonin to harmonize the body's natural day/night rhythms. SAMe is extremely safe, with no known serious side effects. Minor possible side effects in high dosages may include nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort.
Tryptophan is an amino acid that is a precursor to seratonin. Low seratonin levels can cause irritability, anxiety, and sleeplessness, so adding more tryptophan to your diet can help you relax and will promote healthier sleep patterns.
Many foods naturally contain tryptophan. Increasing the amount of turkey, cottage cheese, peanuts, soy, brown rice, or milk in your diet will help your body to manufacture seratonin. Tryptophan supplements are also available.
Choosing your supplement
With all of the natural and herbal sleep aids available, it can seem tough to choose one. The choices don't have to be overwhelming, though.
Some supplements are meant to be used only occasionally, while others work better when used long-term. Many supplements have additional benefits, so it's often easy to pick one supplement to meet several needs. Naturopathic physicians, dieticians, and herbalists can help you choose the best herbal sleep aid for you.

14 Functions of the Thyroid Gland

The thyroid, rather than being a separate "part" of the endocrine system is a major player of the whole endocrine system which regulates metabolism, growth, development and puberty, tissue function and moods. It does this by secreting thyroid hormones that regulate the speed in which body's chemical functions proceed (metabolic rate).
Technically speaking, the thyroid gland regulates or in some way participates in the process of the following 14 body functions:
- regulates basal metabolic rate
- regulates body temperature
- regulates appetite
- promotes expulsion of glucose for energy
- stimulates protein synthesis
- increases lipolysis
- regulates cholesterol levels
- maintains standards for cardiac function
- promotes normal neuronal development in
the fetus and infants
- promotes normal neuronal function in
- enhances effects of sympathetic nervous
- promotes body and skeletal growth
- promotes development of muscles and
muscle function
- regulates standards for female
reproduction and lactation
For as small as the thyroid is in physical size, it does quite a bit for our bodies. So just how does it do all this?
The thyroid gland is located in the front of your neck just below the Adams Apple. It is wrapped around the trachea (windpipe) and has a shape similar to that of a bow tie or butterfly. Its only purpose is to produce hormones which are introduced through the blood effecting metabolism throughout our entire body. The thyroid gland produces its two most important thyroid hormones, thyroxin (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), from iodine which it gets from a diet of seafood and salt. Although the thyroid produces more T4 than T3 hormones (approximately 10:1 ratio) the T3 hormone is the more biologically potent of the two. Once introduced into the blood from the thyroid gland, a large portion of the T4 hormone is then converted into T3 hormone. The T3 hormone is the actual hormone affecting the body's metabolism.
The thyroid gland works in conjunction with two other glands, the hypothalamus gland (the area of the brain that controls body temperature, hunger and thirst) and the pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain, which acts as a regulator to the output of the thyroid glad. Hormones produced from each gland signals the next gland to produce its hormone. So the hypothalamus gland produces a hormone called TRH which sends a signal to the pituitary gland to produce a hormone called TSH which in turn signals the thyroid to produce T4 and T3 hormones. In addition to the signal from the TRH hormone from the hypothalamus gland, the pituitary gland senses the levels of T4 and T3 hormones in the blood and signals the thyroid gland by the amount of TSH hormone it releases to either increase or decrease the production of T4 and T3 hormones.
Because of the wide influence the thyroid has to the rest of the body, it is essential that the thyroid be kept in good health at all times. A dysfunctional thyroid can escalate, causing further dysfunction and damage to other organs of the body, and in some cases, if left unattended, a dysfunctional thyroid can become fatal with a heart attach

25 Natural Skin Care Tips For a Perfect Complexion

These days there are countless tips, techniques and miracle acne cures floating around in cyber space. Let me help you sort through the muck! In this article, I've highlighted the 25 most important natural skin care tips that will truly change your skin for the better and give you the complexion you've always desired.
  1. Find out what food sensitivities you have. This is best done by using the Elisa testing technique. Once you find out the culprits avoid those foods at all costs and watch your skin almost instantly improve.
  2. Stay away from dairy. The consumption of dairy is often the cause of many negative skin conditions.
  3. Avoid red meat. All types of red meat will slow digestions making it hard for your body to expel toxins. This will undoubtedly result in poor skin.
  4. Don't Smoke. Not only is smoking bad for your overall health, but it will also turn your skin yellow and cause breakouts.
  5. Avoid alcohol. The liver has the important job of removing toxins from our system. Alcohol prevents the liver from fully performing its job.
  6. Incorporate all natural Aloe Vera gel (I'm talking straight from the plant) into your skin care regimen. Aloe Vera is one of the very best all natural skin care nutrients on the planet! Use it, and see the incredible results.
  7. Don't touch your face throughout the day. If you practice natural organic skin care techniques and do everything else right, but still touch your face throughout the day, your acne may still be prevalent.
  8. Get plenty of vitamin A into your diet naturally. Although supplementation does have its place, acquiring vitamins organically will offer the best skin care improvements. Here's a tip: Eat a ton of carrots!
  9. Keep your hair away from your face. When hair that retains oil is constantly touching your face it could cause breakouts.
  10. Get at least 8 hours of sleep each night. The body uses the time that you are sleeping to expel acne causing toxins.
  11. Wash your pillow case daily. Each night as you sleep, oil from your hair and face will transfer onto your pillow case. This case can be the perfect breading ground for acne causing bacteria.
  12. Wash your face no more then 2 times a day. A huge mistake that many people who suffer from acne make is washing their face too often. If you strip away all the oils from your skin, more acne causing sebum will be produced in the long run. Remember, you can't wash away acne!

  13. Use a sunscreen (SPF 15 or greater) whether it's rainy, cloudy, winter or summer! No matter what, protect your skin from damaging UV rays. They're always there, no matter what time of year or what type of weather.
  14. Limit stress. Stress increases the production of hormones which cause acne. Also, the more stress you experience, the harder it is for your body to heal.
  15. Get your digestion under control by performing a colon cleanse biannually. Proper digestion is essential for clear and beautiful skin.
  16. Eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables. This is a great way to get a large variety of skin healing nutrients into your diet naturally.
  17. Know your skin type and act accordingly. Different products, moisturizers and natural skin care recipes should be used depending on your skin type.
  18. Don't consume any hydrogenated fats or oils (this means absolutely no margarine!). Your skin will never clear up without ridding your diet of harmful substances like hydrogenated fats or oils.
  19. Beware of fragrances that make you break out. Believe it or not, some perfumes and fragrances can actually cause breakouts.
  20. Get plenty of exercise. Physical exercise is extremely important for clearing acne as it reduces stress significantly.
  21. Stay hydrated by drinking at least 64 ounces of water each day. Water is a key component in removing toxins from the body.
  22. Use a mild abrasive soap once a day to remove dead skin cells. Dead skin cells can clog pores and cause breakouts if they are not removed.
  23. Take a high quality multivitamin. Getting all the skin care vitamins into your diet each and every day is difficult to do naturally. Taking a high quality multivitamin will ensure that no nutrient has been left out.
  24. Use natural organic skin care makeup. Many prominent makeup brands use a formula that will clog pores and cause acne. Be sure to use all natural makeup or better yet... no makeup at all.
  25. Use all natural homemade soap. Store bought skin care products can incorporate damaging synthetics that will often make your skin condition worse. The only way to know for sure that what you are putting on your skin is 100% all natural and chemical free is to make the skin care products yourself.
Now it's time that you put these natural skin care tips into practice. I just know that you will love the results!By

Natural Cures For Skin Allergies

Natural Cures For Skin Allergies
Hives are an allergic skin reaction during which certain cells release histamine and other inflammatory chemicals. These chemicals cause small blood vessels in the area to leak and this causes the raised patches of skin - somewhat circular in shape. There may only be one or there can be many red patches. They last from one to three days. They can be white, pink or red and are itchy. They may also burn or sting. If the allergic reaction involves other systems of the body there may be a wheeze and difficulty in breathing, swollen lips and eyelids and general flushing. This can be a serious allergic situation and medical assistance needs to be sought immediately.
Our bodies are equipped with an immune system that is designed to recognize harmful substances that get into our blood stream or organs. The harmful substance or allergen enters our bodies and the immune system reacts through a system of plasma proteins called immunoglobulins - these search out and destroy the intruder. This is a complex process with many steps involved. During the process the cells release histamine and other chemicals that cause the familiar allergic symptoms - swelling, itching, hives or sneezing and so forth. In the lungs these chemicals can cause muscle spasms, which in turn narrows the air passages making it difficult to breathe.
To have this allergic reaction our systems must first be primed - become sensitive to the allergen. One or more encounters with the allergen are required before the sensitization develops. The first exposure 'programs' our immune system to recognize and react in a certain way when encountering the allergen. Subsequent exposure results in the allergic response.
The factors that trigger an allergic reaction can be varied and may include:

  • Grasses and other plants
  • Pollen
  • Insect bites
  • Food additives and certain foods
  • Drugs
  • Any of an enormous range of chemicals found in the air, water and generally in the environment
  • Dust
  • Animal dander
  • and so forth
When the body is in good health it can be very tolerant to the invasion of incoming chemicals or foreign proteins. However, if the liver is overloaded with toxic material and the lymphatic system is already congested with unsuccessful attempts to clear waste from the tissue an allergic reaction can manifest. Some people are genetically predisposed to producing large amounts of histamine. Stress will also play its part with most conditions. When the body is in a relaxed state many instances of inflammation in the tissues can be avoided.
What you can do
All of the recommendations for hives and other allergic reactions are aimed at improving overall health and vitality. This is achieved by removing toxins from the body, making sure that a healthy eliminative diet is eaten, that the body has the nutrients that it needs to heal and obtain balance.
However, the first place to start is to eliminate the offending substance from contact or entry into the body. If the allergen problem is food or food additives, for example, it is important that the foods be eliminated from the diet. If the problem is dust or moulds or pollens it is important for these to be eliminated - so that the immune system has a chance to rest and regain its balance.
  • Follow safe colon cleansing principles - this means that the whole body - including the lymphatic and immune systems will be cleansed and this is an effect way to assist the body to regain a balanced immune system.
  • The diet needs to be based on salads, vegetables, fruit and a moderate level of protein intake. It is particularly important for anything that suppresses the immune system and congests the lymphatic system needs to be removed from the diet. This means all sugars, dairy products, fatty food, all process and refined foods and fatty foods. Eliminating these foods will also provide the body with the opportunity to begin eliminating toxic material. This will begin to allow a rebalancing of the immune system.
  • In addition to eating a healthy diet it is important to supplement the nutrients that are eaten so that there are plenty available for the healing process. The nutrients that are needed can be obtained from a good multivitamin and mineral supplement. In particular vitamins C and the B group vitamins are needed.
  • It is also important to limit the toxic load that the body has to deal with as much as is possible. This means stop smoking , avoid alcohol, reduce or eliminate the chemicals that are used in and around the house, use organic foods and so forth.
  • There are two groups of herbs that will provide assistance. Those cleanse the liver and those that cleanse the lymphatic system. Herbs for cleansing the liver are:
  • Dandelion
  • Milk thistle
  • Burdock
  • Centaury
  • Fringe tree Herbs for cleansing the lymphatic system are:
  • Red clover
  • Burdock
  • Cleavers
  • Violet leaves In addition to the liver and lymphatic herbs the following can be useful. The following can be made as a tea and then applied as a compress to the affected area.
  • Liquorice (licorice) has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy properties. It acts in similar ways to cortisol - the bodies own anti-inflammatory hormone. As well as using liquorice internally as a tea you can also apply the tea to the affected skin with a clean cloth three or four times per day. Be aware of the issues related to liquorice before you use it internally.
  • Chamomile is also an anti-inflammatory that you can take internally as well as applying the tea to the hives three or four times per day. You can also use it in a lukewarm bath. If you are allergic to other members of the daisy family you may also be allergic to chamomile.
  • Diluted, distilled witch hazel can be used externally to ease the itching.
The following is a useful formula:
  • 4 tablespoons chamomile
  • 1 tablespoon licorice
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1 teaspoonful turmeric or 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 3 cups water
Place the herbs into a medium saucepan and add the water. Bring to the boil and then simmer for 10 minutes. Strain and allow to cool. Place on a gauze cloth and apply to the affected area. Refrigerate any left over for later use.
Hives are an allergic skin reaction that cause raised patches of skin. There may only be one or there can be many red patches. They are one of a range of conditions that indicates hypersensitivity of the immune system. The underlying problems that have lead to the hypersensitivity and allergic responses need to be addressed - as well as providing immediate relief from the skin inflammation.By

Makeup for Droopy Eyes

Makeup for Droopy Eyes
Has anyone ever told you that you have "puppy dog" eyes? If they have, then you have the "droopy eye" eye shape. This eye shape is where the outer corners of your eyes are turned slightly downward, or they seem lower than the inner corners of your eyes. There is a pretty simple way to apply eye makeup to de-accentuate that eye shape and make your eyes appear more open and lifted.
The trick is simple. You want to keep all eye makeup off of the very outer corners of your eyes. If you apply makeup in the outer corners, it drags them down more and actually makes your eyes appear droopier than they already are.
Here is a step-by-step easy way to apply your eye makeup. You will use at least three shades of eye shadow: highlight is the lightest shade, midtone is darker, and the accent is the darkest shade. In order to provide a visible "lift" to the outer corners of your eye, do the following:
1. Apply the highlight shade to the brow bone and eyelid as well as the inner corner of the lower lash line.
2. Be careful with the midtone shade, proper placement will lift the outer corners of your eyes. Apply the midtone shade slightly in from the outside corner of the eye. You will then sweep the color upwards and in across the crease and into the inside corner of your eye - (but not onto the sides of the bridge of your nose!) Also apply the midtone shade along your lower lashline using a thin, flat eyeliner brush. You will start slightly in from the outside corner and brush it across to the inside corner. I know I said don't put anything in the outside corners, however, applying a little midtone shade across most of the entire lower lashline will help it blend with the accent shade later on.
3. Apply the accent shade slightly in from the outside corner and sweep it up and into the crease, not going as far across the entire eyelid as you did with the midtone shade. Just like with the midtone shade, go over the lower lashline with an eyeliner brush, but you will start slightly in from the outside corner (go slightly further in than you did with the midtone shade). If you start at the beginning of the outside corner, you will only accentuate that part of the eye, drawing it down.
The best trick for applying makeup for droopy eyes is to make sure that the eye shadow on your top lash line and bottom lash line to not meet at the outer corner of your eye. This is the perfect way to give the outer corners a lift. Also, you will create a softer look by using an eye shadow across the lower lashline instead of an eyeliner. Using an eyeliner here will make your eyes look too harsh and will tend to drag the eye downward.
Also, when using mascara, concentrate the color on the middle and inside lashes. If you place a lot of mascara on the outer lashes, guess what happens? The corners are accented and your eyes will look droopy again.
One of the greatest secrets to eye makeup application is to use brushes designed for that purpose! Next, be sure you are using a good skin care program. Ayurvedic Herbs for Diabetes - A Purely Natural Way to Control Sugar Levels

Diabetes has almost become an epidemic in today's world. Diabetes is a disorder that affects the way your body uses food for energy. Whatever sugar we take is generally broken down into simple sugar called 'glucose' in our body.
This glucose circulates within the blood and enter into the cells with the help of insulin. Insulin is a hormone, made within the Beta-cells of Pancreas. Due to sedentary life style and genetic predisposition, the beta cells are not able to make enough insulin, which is a key for glucose to enter into the cells. The key is not there and the glucose keeps on circulating within the blood.
This is called Diabetes.
There are two main types. Type I & Type II .
There is another condition known as Pre-Diabetes.
There are two main types of full-blown diabetes. People with Type 1 diabetes are completely unable to produce insulin.
People with Type 2 diabetes can produce insulin, but their cells have become resistant to it. In either case, the glucose can't move into the cells and blood glucose levels can become high. When these levels remain high for long time, they can cause serious complications.
Pre-diabetes is a condition in which the cells in your body are becoming resistant to insulin or your pancreas is not producing as much insulin as required. Your blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be called diabetes. This is also known as "impaired fasting glucose" or "impaired glucose tolerance". Every individual who has a Diabetic father or mother must go for glucose tolerance test or GTT. This can help in diagnosing pre-diabetic condition. A diagnosis of pre-diabetes is a warning sign that diabetes will develop later.
You can prevent the development of Type 2 diabetes by losing weight, making changes in your diet and exercising.
Type 1 Diabetes
In case of Type I (Insulin Dependent Diabetes) the person can't make any insulin. Type 1 most often occurs before age 30, but may strike at any age. This is typically caused by genetic disorder. The pancreas produces very little or no insulin anymore. Frequent insulin injections are needed for Type 1. However there are certain herbs like Salacia oblonga and Pterocarpus marsupium which are found to be useful even in Type I diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes
People suffering from Type II diabetes are having enough insulin but the cells have become resistant to it. This type of Diabetes has become very common and is spreading like an epidemic everywhere around the world. The most important reason for the cells to become resistant to insulin is sedentary life style which is being followed by modern age people.
95 percent of all diabetes cases are Type 2. What can be the reason? It's a lifestyle disease, triggered by obesity, a lack of exercise, increased age and to some degree, genetic predisposition.
So the only way to prevent diabetes is to change the life style, which is the basic theory of Ayurveda to fight any disease. According to Ayurveda, Stress and life style is the reason for most of the illnesses including Type II diabetes.
Factors for developing Type II diabetes and herbs for them
As we know that there is no problem with the insulin production. It is there in the body in enough quantity, but the only problem is that it is not able to open the cells to make the glucose enter into them. All the glucose keep circulating within the blood. The cells become resistant to insulin. The reasons for Insulin resistance are -
1. Obesity
The number one risk factor for Type 2 diabetes is obesity. Nearly 40 % of the patients suffering from Type II diabetes are obese.
Excessive fat interferes with body's ability to use insulin properly. According to Ayurveda this is called " Stroto-avarodh" i.e. blocked channels. This blockage in the channels of passage of Insulin is reason for greater insulin resistance.
Food and life style which cause blockage in the channels or " Stroto-avarodh " are curd, banana, heavy greasy diet, overeating, excess daytime sleep.
There are herbs which are useful in clearing the blockages and opening up the micro channels. These remove excessive fat from within the body. Herbs like Katuki (Picrorrhiza kurro), Vidang (Embelia ribes), Amalvetas (Garcinia cambogia), Triphala are useful in Type II diabetes because they open up the channels and helps in reducing the insulin resistance.
2. Sedentary Lifestyle
According to Charaka- an ancient Ayurvedic healer, lifestyle is damaging to health and bears responsibility for the growing obesity and diabetes. Inactivity and being overweight go hand in hand towards a diagnosis of Type 2. Muscle cells have more insulin receptors than fat cells, so a person can decrease insulin resistance by exercising. Sushruta another ancient Ayurveda surgeon explains by giving an analogy that who suffers from diabetes should walk at least 100 kilometers a day to keep his sugar level under control.
This indicates that one must walking and being more active also lowers blood sugar levels by helping insulin to be more effective.
3. Unhealthy Eating Habits

90% of people who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes are overweight. Unhealthy eating contributes largely to obesity. Too much fat, not enough fiber, and too many simple carbohydrates all contribute to a diagnosis of diabetes. Eating right is can turn the diagnosis around and reverse or prevent Type 2.
4. Family History and Genetics
It appears that people who have family members who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes are at a greater risk for developing it themselves. Indians have a higher than normal rate of Type 2 diabetes. Having a genetic disposition towards Type 2 is not a guarantee of a diagnosis. Lifestyle plays an important part in determining who gets diabetes. So it can be prevented if we go for changed life style to avoid diabetes.
5. Increased Age
It's a very sad but true fact. The older we get, the risk of Type 2 diabetes is increased. Even if an elderly person is thin, he/she still may be predisposed to getting diabetes. As we age, the pancreas ages right along with us. It doesn't make enough insulin it did when we were younger. Also, as our cells age, they become more resistant to insulin as well.
6. Stress, High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol
The hormones are under the control of our thought and our attitude towards events in life. The stress hormone immediately releases pool of glucose, corticosteroid hormones in our blood. There is immediate release of adrenal hormones, causing blood pressure and constriction of arteries.
Not only do they damage your heart vessels but they are two key components in Metabolic syndrome, a cluster of symptoms including obesity, a high fat diet, and lack of exercise. Having metabolic syndrome increases your risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
Following are the herbs, which have been extensively researched by modern parameters by various research scholars. They have also been described in ancient Ayurvedic texts as herbal solution for diabetes. These are -

How to Make the Lemon Detox Diet Drink - The Correct Recipe and Ingredients

Getting this very simple recipe right is crucial to your ultimate result.
Ingredients for the Lemon Detox Drink
  • 2 Tablespoons Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup Grade B
  • 1/10th Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 8 fl Oz's Pure Water
Mix all of the ingredients together in a glass and enjoy! Initially you may find the cayenne pepper a little hot, especially if you are not used to spicy food but this is something that you also become accustomed to very quickly.
I was quite surprised at how hot it was when I first tried it but I was soon adding extra cayenne for an even stronger detox towards the end.
You'll need to drink a minimum of 6 detox drinks throughout the day. Somewhere between 8 - 12 is ideal. Make sure that you are also drinking plenty of fresh pure water throughout the day too.
Whenever you start to feel a bit hungry, go and mix yourself a drink. This tends to keep hunger pains at bay pretty quickly. Once you get past day 3, you'll probably find that you will experience very few actual hunger pains although about 1 in 4 people do say that they have regular hunger pains throughout. But don't worry, I've got a good feeling that you'll be one of the lucky other 3!
The drink is best made fresh each time that you want to drink it but this sometimes isn't possible, especially if you are heading off to work. To try and maintain the cleaning power of the lemon enzymes, make a concentrate of the maple syrup and the lemon juice and just add water when you want to drink it.
So if you were planning on drinking 3 drinks whilst you were out, you would need to make up a concentrate of 6 tablespoons of lemon juice and 6 tablespoons of maple syrup.
To make life easier on yourself, take 3 separate bottles of water each containing 8 fl Oz's of pure water but with the capacity for 10 fl Oz's as you will be adding your concentrate to it.
You'll need to pack a tablespoon for measuring and your cayenne to add at the end. (you can add 3/10ths of a teaspoon of cayenne to the concentrate but cayenne tends to get hotter when it hits liquid and is left for a period of time).
Once you're ready for a drink, just get your concentrate out and give it a good shake, then measure 4 tablespoons into the bottle, add your cayenne, shake and drink!
If hunger creeps in just distract yourself. I decided to detox my house whilst I detoxed my body. There is nothing quite like cleaning to keep you focused and distracted. My house had never looked so good by the time I had finished my detox and of course it helps when you get so much more energy than you normally have.
If you don't have a house to clean try some light exercise as this will make you feel great and keep your mind off food. Don't forget to keep drinking the detox drink and replenishing your water supplies.By

How to Whiten Dark Underarms

Dark underarms can occur for several reasons, and usually no one cause is to blame. The darkening of skin in this area is commonly due to a combination of sweating, deodorant use, and shaving. Thankfully, though, this problem can be resolved. Here are some examples of how to whiten dark underarms:
Lemon Slices - The simplest solution is to rub lemon slices on your underarms. Then, let the lemon juice sit for 20 to 30 minutes and rinse off. You can also add a bit of honey to this mixture to help it act more like a mask. This should be done twice daily until results are seen.
Armpit Peeling - Armpit peeling is like a chemical peel for your armpits. It can be done by a dermatologist and effectively removes the outermost layers of skin, which are the darkest. However, several treatments may be necessary for full results to be seen.
Bleaching - As the name suggests, there are products available for bleaching dark armpits. Some of these can be very harsh.
Keep them Clean - Perhaps the most effective example of how to whiten dark underarms is to change your deodorant habits. Since the dark coloration is caused by a combination of sweat and the products used to stop it, it is a good idea to change to a more hypoallergenic soap and deodorant. You may also want to switch from antiperspirant, which blocks pores, to a deodorant-only product and use talcum powder to absorb sweat.
Arbutin Cream - If your underarms are dark because of hyperpigmentation, an arbutin cream may provide most safe and effective results. Be sure the cream you use contains "alpha arbutin." If it just says arbutin, it's probably beta arbutin which is not nearly as effective.
If your dark underarms are caused by hyperpigmentation, you should probably try an arbutin based lightening cream. By

The Problems With Diabetes And Hair Loss

The connection between diabetes and hair loss was established long ago.
Diabetes is a hormone related disorder that often leads to hair loss or thinning of the hair.
Frequent loss of hair is often considered one of the early symptoms of diabetes, which requires prompt treatment in order to avoid further complications. The growth of hair is affected by diabetes, which gradually leads to thinning of hair.
Stress is directly related to diabetes and hair loss, as the disease causes excessive anxiety, which in turn becomes the prime cause of hair loss.
Diabetes Leads To Hair Loss:
Diabetes occurs when it becomes difficult for the body to metabolize carbohydrates properly. Diabetics are highly sensitive to skin ailments, as their blood circulation and blood sugar levels are impaired.
Bruises and small wounds often take a relatively long time to heal; therefore, the recovery rate is comparatively slower and obstructs the re-growth of hair.
This causes visible hair reduction, as diabetics cannot maintain the normal cycle of re-growth process. Bacterial and fungal infections on the scalp because of diabetes could also result in hair loss, thereby making diabetes and hair loss inter-related.
Normally, a healthy person would lose around fifty to hundred strands of hair every day. Therefore, if hair loss increases rapidly, you could require medical assistance, since untreated diabetes can escalate hair loss further.
The process:
Diabetes often leads to diffused hair growth that could be a result of medical stress or side effects of certain prescribed medicines to diabetics. It usually depends on the individual's body, as each person responds differently to specific medications. The stress caused by chronic diabetes reduces the growth of hair.
After a period of seven to eight months, hair follicles undergo a resting period and are gradually replaced with the growth of new hair. The replaced strands push the old hair to the surface of the scalp, and the hair falls out, this is known as telogen effluvium.

An autoimmune problem:
The other cause of hair loss due to diabetes is an autoimmune problem, which leads to one or more small bald patches developing on the scalp. This ailment is called alopecia areata.
Other additional autoimmune problems like a dysfunctional thyroid gland, the skin rash vitiligo, pernicious anemia, or Type 1 diabetes, often accompanies it.
Generally, Type 2 diabetes occurs when a hormonal imbalance causes polycystic ovary syndrome. Both the conditions are related to insulin resistance, which refers to the reduced ability of cells in the body to react to insulin.
Early detection and monitoring:
Diabetes often remains undetected because the symptoms at the early stage are not considered significant.
This is a major problem because early detection could slow down its harmful effects. Some of the symptoms of diabetes could be blurred vision, frequent urination, acute hunger, increased thirst, unusual weight loss, fatigue and unnecessary irritation.
Early detection of any of these symptoms, and early treatment could help in early recovery from both diabetes as well as excessive hair loss.
Careful monitoring of blood sugar levels provides relevant information that helps maintain control, which would consequently delay the development of various long-term complications.
Some of these long-term complications of diabetes could be the damage of blood vessels and nerves, loss of functioning of the kidneys, loss of sensation, heart disease and strokes.
Hair loss normally begins at the onset of diabetes and gradually becomes worse after the disease takes charge of the body.
It is very important to get the hair loss symptom diagnosed, to know the root cause of hair fall.
You need to seek a qualified doctor's advice, so that you can avoid further problems, and to desist from using hair lotions and conditioners, which will not help to solve the problem.By

Exercises to Get Rid of Cellulite - Effective Anti Cellulite Treatment

Can exercise get rid of cellulite?
If you are serious about losing the orange peel skin and cottage cheese thighs, then exercise should definitely be part of your plan to get rid of your cellulite. But before you are able to remove cellulite it is important to have a basic understanding of what cellulite is.
What is Cellulite?
The lumpiness and dimpling appearance of cellulite is caused by fat deposits that push and distort the connective tissues beneath the skin. Cellulite may appear whether you are fat or skinny since the main contributing factor is a genetic difference in how connective tissue and fatty tissue form. In order to get rid of cellulite you must lower your body fat percentage and tone the muscle to tighten skin.
What Exercises Get Rid of Cellulite?
So you want to know how to get rid of cellulite naturally? In order to reduce the appearance of cellulite your exercise routine should focus of burning fat and toning lean muscle. By doing this you are reducing your overall body fat percentage and building and toning your lean muscle acts to tighten and smooth the areas where cellulite appears.
The first mistake most women make is to think that they will just exercise their legs to get rid of cellulite on thighs. Our bodies just don't work this way. Targeting one specific area does not cause that area to burn fat any faster. Therefore, the best way to get rid of cellulite is to implement a full body workout.
Your workout should always begin with proper stretching. You will want to include some aerobic exercise in your routine such as walking, jogging, cycling, swimming or aerobic videos. Strength training should also be included in your routine and is arguably the most important. This can be any form of resistance training or weight lifting (don't worry we're not trying to become body builders here). You should work the muscle extra hard where the cellulite tends to accumulate.
Try developing a routine that suits you. 30 minutes a day 3 times a week is a good start. Try mixing up your routine and shifting exercises and days around for added effect. This keeps your body from adapting to the routine.
Faster Cellulite Removal
While exercise alone can help, I have found that the best cellulite treatment is a combination of things.
First off you should make sure to eat a healthy balanced diet. Some may claim there are foods that get rid of cellulite but the most important thing is to eat a balanced diet. Don't starve yourself as this will only put your body into fat storage mode, making your progress slower.
In addition to diet and exercise you can use topical anti cellulite creams, gels or lotions. These are formulated to supply nutrients and reduce fat cells below the skin surface to create firmer, smoother skin. I like to apply mine after I shower in the morning, after work-out and before bed.By

Colorectal Cancer Symptoms - Signs of This Disease and 3 Herbs That Can Prevent It!

Colorectal Cancer Symptoms - Signs of This Disease and 3 Herbs That Can Prevent It!
Today I'm going to talk about the top colorectal cancer symptoms and a few herbs that can really reduce your chance of getting it. If you're not sure what colorectal cancer really is, have you ever heard of colon cancer? They really are the same thing. According to the Colon Cancer Alliance it is the second leading cause of death when it comes to cancer.
In your body you have something called the colon or large intestines. It's main job is to add the finishing touches to digestion. This includes absorbing any water, storing anything of value and eliminating the waste. In the colon there are cells that are constantly dying and being reborn. With a cancerous cell instead of it dying and being reborn like a normal cell, it starts to grow out of control.
The bad news is that oftentimes there really are no symptoms of this disease. Anytime there is a problem in the body one of the most common signs is going to be discomfort. So there might be pains in the stomach or pelvic region. Another sign of this disease could be changes to a person's stools. This could include constipation, diarrhea, bleeding in stools or they can look long and thin sort of like a brown pen. Another sign would be fatigue, losing weight and not being very hungry.
Have you ever heard the expression "kill the monster while it's small?" It definitely applies to cancer because the sooner you discover it; the easier it is to treat. This is why it's a good idea to get screenings so you can catch the disease early before big problems develop. A lot of health experts recommend getting a screening after the age of 50 every 3 to 10 years depending on the results.
Speaking of killing the monster while it's small, how about not getting the monster in the first place? It's not a bad idea right? The best way to prevent this problem is to try to be healthy. This includes things most people already know such as not being overweight, not using tobacco, not abusing alcohol and not eating a very unhealthy diet.
Another idea, which is often overlooked when it comes to cancer is a multivitamin. There are some vitamins such as vitamin D, folate and calcium that really lower the risk of this health problem. Sure you can get vitamins through food, but the truth is that our food isn't the same as it was hundreds of years ago thanks to chemicals.
There are also a few herbs that can really help such as garlic and onions. In one study by the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition they looked at men and women from 10 different countries. They found that higher intakes of both onion and garlic were connected to a reduced risk of intestinal cancer.
Another herb to consider is something called ginseng. There was a study in the BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine Journal. Researchers took mice and split them into 2 groups. Both groups ate a very high fat diet, but one group received 250 ppm of ginseng. The result was that ginseng significantly reduced inflammation of the colon as well as the growth of cancer tumors.
To sum everything up the top colorectal cancer symptoms are.
  • Pain in the stomach or pelvis area
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Bleeding in stools
  • Stools that are thin and long
  • Fatigue, weight loss and a loss of appetite
3 Herbal remedies that can help prevent colorectal cancer are.
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Ginseng

Sleep Wrinkles - Preventing and Repairing Them

As we age, the appearance of sleep wrinkles, those facial lines that develop from sleeping with your face against a pillow, becomes much more prominent. This should come as no surprise if you consider how much of one's life is spent sleeping. If you are getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep per night, you sleep 1/3 of your life. Consequently, by age 60, you will have slept 20 years. It is obvious why sleeping on our face eventually leads to creases that become permanently etched in the surface of the skin. Sleep wrinkles are much easier to prevent than they are to repair. As a result, you should make every effort to keep from getting them in the first place.
The most effective and least costly method for preventing sleep wrinkles is to sleep on your back. People who sleep in this position simply do not develop these wrinkles. Chinese women recognized this fact ages ago, and always slept on their backs using concave porcelain pillows. If you are unaccustomed to sleeping in this position, you might try placing a pillow under you knees to decrease stress on the lower back and increase your comfort.
If you are unable to sleep on your back, using a pillow that minimizes facial wrinkling is another possibility. Sleep on a big, soft, non-synthetic pillow that you are able to fluff and squish. Those with natural fill, such as down and feathers, offer the most comfort, long-term performance, and adjustability. This type of pillow supports the head while providing softness, eliminating pressure points, and increasing facial circulation to reduce squashing and sleep wrinkles. There are also pillows available made specifically for preventing sleep wrinkles. They support the head while keeping the face and eye tissue away from the pillow.

Choosing the correct pillowcase on which to sleep can also deter the formation of sleep creases. If you awaken with these unsightly lines in the morning, your cotton pillowcase may be to blame. Instead of cotton, sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase that allows your face to slide across the pillow thereby minimizing skin wrinkling. Another option for not only preventing sleep lines, but also repairing those which you already have, is to use a copper technology pillowcase. It is imbedded with copper micro fibers which serve to repair your skin as you sleep. Copper has been proven to stimulate collagen production thereby helping reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Unfortunately, if you already have sleep wrinkles, they may be difficult to alleviate. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity. When the skin becomes creased while sleeping, it no longer readily snaps back when the head is not resting on the pillow, as it did when we were younger. Since these wrinkles are not the result of muscle contractions, such as worry lines or crow's feet, products with Botox-like benefits are ineffective. In order to correct them, new collagen needs to form under the wrinkles to push up the skin from below. There are many skin care products on the market that contain various peptides that promote the formation of collagen. If topical formulations are ineffective, you might want to consult your dermatologist about a wrinkle filler such as Restylane.
